    Pascal Herington's Rotary Trip
14th July - A New Country!

I returned from London in the afternoon, and it was a good feeling to be at 'home' once more. Speaking of which, it is interesting how much this has become my home. I now speak of tourists in Graz, haha, like im not still one! And i know where in Graz you can get the best Wienerschnitzel and Backhendl, its nice to feel that i have gone that much into the culture that it has become a part of my culture, that is an interesting feeling. Anyway, back to things.

I chucked all my washing in (there was a lot!) and had a fantastic sleep that night, in my bed! Packed early the next morning, and was off, like that, to Switzerland.

I didnt actually know that much about Switzerland, except that it is neutral and they play big horns. But i was excited about going there. It was one of the choices on my list of countries at the Rotary interviews. I was lucky on the way there, because we got to travel my favourite length of road in the world, the road between Graz and Salzburg, it is easily the most beautiful drive in the world, barr none.  It is the scenery from the Sound of Music for a solid two hours, and better. It is simply breathtaking the whole way along. I have never seen more beautiful country in my life. Well ok, you can probably see i like this drive. I had not yet been into Switzerland yet however, and that was really exciting. On the Eurotour we had been in for 100 m but only to turn the bus around and go back out of the country. Finally i would see more than the border!

The Greimers have a house at St Moritz in Switzerland, it is a skiing spot in winter and is often compared to the Aspen of Europe. The drive to St Moritz was really nice, and after about 8 hours we were there. It was a typical chalet in Sils, just next to St Moritz, and surrounded by gorgeous mountains. We got in and chilled out for a while, it was a really nice place.

The next 3 days were spent walking, playing soccer and riding bikes, i flew a kite every day, something i had not done in years, and that was really enjoyable, there was also a fair share of nintendo playing to be done, it was a relaxing and enjoyable time, i loved it. I also got time to really chat with Michi which was also good, about anything and everything. It is interesting to talk about various topics that concern especially Europe, and these were the sorts of things that we were talking about, I think a person gets a feel for a culture as much by talking to its inhabitants as they do living in the country.
