| 12th September - Bella Venezia - part ii The next morning we were up quite early. We enjoyed a typical minimal Italian breakfast, before heading to the Peggy Guggenheim Museum. We had been invited to an exhibition there. It was a prize funded from Vienna, for an artist with Utopian ideals or something like that. That wasnt the interesting thing though. We popped across the river and went into this stunning Museum, built right on the river, with a very beautiful sculpture garden right in the centre. It was very pretty. We went up the stairs to where the ceremony was, in the rooftop garden which had the most incredible view on to the city, and the canals and so. But as soon as i got there i knew i was in trouble. Ok anyone who knows me knows that i although i am a musical person i hate overly artsy things. Like really hardcore bohemian stuff. Well, we had not simply stumbled on to such an event, this was incredible. The people, the way they dressed, they talked, walked, sipped their champagne, i just had to laugh. It was a cool thing to see, such a prestigious art prize, but at the same time, i felt so incredibly uncomfortable.??????? I will spell the thing out in examples, explaining what it is i hate so much about such artsy people: ???????????????? - Anyone who uses the word 'horde' to describe a group of people - Anyone who tries to use so many complicated words that they get lost in their own wanky rhetoric - Anyone who refuses to drink anything because they dont provide Evian water, yes that really did happen! - Here is a typical arty conversation that i hate, i did actually hear this one: 'I love this era, it is so powerful, it encompasses everything about that timeframe, so stereotypical, but so simple' and then his friend asks him 'and what era exactly was that?' he replies 'ummm, the one that this painting is from'. It was so funny to see someone talking out of their arse get caught. Anyways, i dont want to spend the whole time complaining, but i was so unhappy around these people. I suppose it was just another experience in my year. That said the museum itself was really interesting and good to see, all the artwork there is of great note and cool to see. The afternoon was spent catching up once more with Maurizio and Ferrucio, we met them at the appartment, sorry, i mean building. Yes, the whole thing. It was incredible, decorated in perfect style with all the trimmings! We then went to the restaurant where they met my parents. It was sort of a nostalgic thing, but awesome all the same. It was fantastic food, and we had a great time tasting various Grappas and Liquers and so. We had so much fun with them. It was also cool to see Venice with Venetians. It was a great day. The trip home was a nice opportunity to talk to Michi and Hannes, we talked almost non stop the way back. It was really nice. Paz |
