12th March - General Happenings

I thought that just before i go i should give you a run down of what i missed in the last entries.

I put up the photos i had in my camera. Which means that it is clear for Schladming!!!! Im seriously so excited about going skiing again! I cant wait! And the website became a bit of a burden a few weeks ago, but im really enjoying putting stuff up again, and saying a big hello to everyone back home!

The opera on the 6th (which i failed to mention in a previous entry) was absolutely awesome. It was so different to the opera back home. I think what it came down to in the end is that it is so much more intimate here. The theatre is smaller, the stage is smaller, the cast smaller, you are closer to the stage and the theatre has a real 'cosy' feel about it. It is an incredible building. From outside it looks quite similar to the other buildings in town, but when you step inside it is like a lavish palace decorated by an emporer to entertain guests, haha, my imagination is going on a tangent! But the inside is awesome. There is no dress circle (a second level) it just has the seats on the ground and the boxes dotted above them. The roof is incredible, it has depictions of both biblical and scenes from opera. Everything is dressed in gold leaf and decorated with such elegance and attention to detail. And the opera itself was fantastic. I was so happy to see an opera where the powerful male lead was seriously overshadowed by a delicate and controlled female soprano. She was amazing. The way she held the audience in her hand with her impeccable control and technique was fantastic. She didnt need to blast, all her presence on the stage came from her singing well and within herself, which is something that you rarely see (well i rarely see at least, didnt mean to offend the opera buffs!). It was a great night however.

I started the German course this week and it is very hard. Somehow, i got put in a really good group, with three Slovanians and a Croatian girl. They are all about 30, but its ok, im keeping up. I find that my comprehension of the grammar is every bit as good as theirs, but my vocabulary is just not as strong, so i strugle a bit in conversation lessons, but its going fine. The whole class is in German, which means that i have no choice but to learn the verbs and phrases the teacher is using. Its the best way though. Im sure very soon i will wake up and realise that i can actually speak it! Haha, should be an awesome day!

Well i better be off, gotta go ski!!! haha, not to make any of you jealous!
