| Pascal Herington's Rotary Trip | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| 11th June - Wir fahren nach Ungarn! Only a few days after i moved in, i was already off. I had been really wary at the Uranitsches to not treat the place like a hotel and brush in and out as i pleased, i think, that said, that i still did that, which was not good of me, but as Konnie said, while i am over here i might as well see it. ??????Unfortunately i didnt start off at the Greimers on a very diplomatic foot. I was away in a few days from being there. But it was a Rotary thing, and they understood, and Michi was so nice, she packed me Mossie Repellent and a big water bottle, it was nice to be 'mumed' once more. I caught the train from Graz to Vienna, which i was really excited about going to, because i really hadnt been there yet. My excitement was quickly lost, however, when i arrived at the Sdbahnhof. From there i caught the Straenbahn to the Westbahnhof. The whole time, i saw drunks, brick walls, and ugly train stations. My impression of Wien was seriously not good at this stage. But that said i had really seen two train stations and the space between them, which im told is on the edge of town. So i suppose Wien still has to live up to its expectations in my mind. I got to the train station, and met the other exchange students that had arrived. Slowly more and more came and in the end we had about 20 there. The others were coming from Linz and there was about 30 in that group. It was going to be so good to see all of them again. After the tour i had really missed them all. Some of them had gone home, and i really really missed them. But that was funny for me. Anyone who knows me well knows that i am the least sentimental person in the world, and that goodbyes for me are really not that much, i either think of the next time that i will meet them again, or if i wont, then i think of the time i had with them, and smile back on the memories. But i really really missed the exchange students. Everyone had said proir to the year that they become your life, and that everyone becomes so close in the student group. I wasnt so quick to think that a group of strangers could become my closest friends. But i realised after the eurotour that i was so close to these people, and that i would seriously miss these fellas when they went. That said, i still had a chance to see them before they went. We chatted idley with the other ones who were there. It was good fun to catch up on stories, and what they had been up to. And i argued with my mate Holly, who lives in Vienna, whether or not Vienna was the ugliest city in the world, (ok it was mainly me saying that! hehe). Then, FINALLY the bus came. It looked like a scene from Baywatch as 30 students flew off a bus most of them wearing only swimming costumes and boardies, and the like. They told us that the air condition was not working, so when in Rome, and i was off to Hungary in a pair of Boardies. Along with Italy, and Spain, I was so excited about going to Hungary, i could not wait! It was all so exciting! Heading off with good mates, and going to a completely new and different country. What more could you ask for, ok i suppose a bus that wasnt 40C could be a start...... Paz |
