In Rezekne, until this course, there wasn�t any structure that allowed people learn Spanish language, although you could find some private classes. This is why Natasha TSOVVO, the leader of the Language and Cultural Center �World at Our Home�, thought this lack had to be overcome in the Rezekne region by providing Spanish lessons in her own Center.
Thanks to her interest in making the awareness of other cultures and languages possible for all the people, we are able to provide lessons of Spanish language in our center.
OUR OBJECTIVE
- to give lessons of Spanish language. One volunteer is giving lessons from the beginning of the course in September of 2002. The main target is that there will always be one Spanish volunteer responsible to teach the language, or, if this is not possible, to have in the Center a person with a good knowledge of Spanish as a Foreign Language, to do it, until the moment that the people from Rezekne can take the lessons by themselves.
- to inform about Spanish culture and citizenship. At the moment, we have some CD roms of the History of Spanish Literature and some information provided by some of the autonomies in Spain about tourism, but we would like to enlarge our information with books, films, CDs of Spanish music. To achieve this target, we are already in contact with the Spanish Embassy in Stockholm and waiting for their reply.
- to open a network of Spanish people in Latvia. In order to do that, we are already in contact with the Spanish Embassy in Stockholm, as well as with an ex-volunteer from Latvia, Ieva Lindenbauma, who spent six months in Spain and now is trying to open a Spanish Cultural Center in Tukums.
- to spread information about events taking place in Latvia about Spain, its culture, music, traditions� through television, radio and newspapers.
- to contact with organizations settled in Spain in order to create an inter-exchange between people from Latvia and Spain.
LESSONS
We have classes of Spanish language four times a week:
Adults: 1 hour and a half
Students: 45 minutes
We work with the following books �Gente 1� and �Gente 2�
In this year we have 15 people attending our courses and their ages are from 12 to 40.
EVENTS
- Organization of Spanish �fiestas� every two months, on Friday evening, with nowadays Spanish music, movies from Spanish directors dubbed into Russian and gastronomy from Spain.
- Organization of a Spanish Cultural Week in Rezekne, with the show in the cinema of the center of a movie of a Spanish director, music in the radio, reports about Spanish culture in the newspapers and on television.
- Organization of an exhibition of Spanish Art in the Arts School of Rezekne.
