It was founded in November, the 23th 1999.
The leader of the Centre in Natasha TSOVVO, about 15 people take part in our centre.
The main goal of the centre :
The dissemination, in Latvia, of knowledge of languages and culture of different countries of the world.
The main tasks :
1. Becoming proficient in languages and culture, to facilitate the integration of ethnic minorities in Latvian Society.
2. To provide people with ample opportunity to study and enrich their knowledge, abilities and practical skills in foreign languages.
3. To establish and develop cooperation with Latvian and other countries' organisation in achievement of common goals.
4. To make use of other countries' experiences in preservation of the environment and the cultural heritage.
5. To establish the basis of data of opportunities of getting education in other countries,
6. To carry on explanatory work among the population about actual social problems for consolidation of democracy, to promote citizenship and social integration in Latvia.
7. To develop public education to assist resident non-citizens in the naturalisation process.
Activities :
In our centre, there are courses of the English language, as well as Latvian, Russian, German, French and Spanish, for adults and children. These lessons are very successful among citizens of Rezekne.
Members of our centre always take part and also organise different cultural events in our town : concerts, celebrations, meetings, conferences and various projects.
We have also close contact with Rezekne Music College, Rezekne Art College, "Meridians Plus" (NGO Centre), Latgale society and others.
Place :
Language and Cultural Centre rents a 43 square meter room in the town club.
The town club is situated in the centre of the northern residential district in Rezekne. Only the basement is dedicated to commercial purposes, with an internet cafe, a pub and a shop.
The other two floors are aimed for cultural purposes.
Our centre is in the first floor, next to the cinema, as well as you can find other organisations as Latgale Society, the Sport Dancing Club, the "Medicus" choir, the Town Brass Band, Folk Songs' group, Folk Dances' group and aerobics.
On th second floor there's the biggest concert hall in the city, where it takes place the most important events, concerts, conferences, etc, with room for 500 places and a balcony for 132 seats.
