In R�zekne, only few younsters had this possibility to learn French at school - School number 6 and in the Gymnasium. At present any other structure offer the opportunity for everybody - adults and children to learn French.
A French Cultural Centre exists in the same region, in Daugavpils but it is far from R�zekne.
Because we think culture and information shoub be opened to everybody, our wish was to create a French Cultural Centre in R�zekne.
THE GOAL
- to give French lessons. French volunteer - European Voluntary Service - give it since November 2001. We would like to open this work to a volunteer with skills in French Foreign Language in order to develop the language until the inhabitants will be able to take care of the lessons by themselves.
- to inform about the French society and civilisation. We have already some books and documents we can lend. We would like to find other possibilities to increase our library.
- to open on the network of French people in Latvia. We already began to establish links with the French Embassy and the French lecture who works in Daugavpils. She is "responsible" of the relation betwenn the Embassy and the Latgale region. We would like to be able to inform inhabitants about French events, which happen in Latvia.
- to extend these informations through local TV, radio, et newspaper.
- to create contacts with French organisation.
LESSONS
We give French lessons two times per week
- 45 minutes for children and teenagers
- One hour and half for adults.
We work with Pile ou Face, Panorame 1 et Espaces 2.
Fron the beginning of the school year 2002 - 2003, 26 persons are registered. We have children from 12 years old and adults till 65 years old.
PROJECTS
One-off projects :
- Youth exchange - action 2 of the European Youth Program. This project is already writen. We are looking for a French group interested by this exchange.
- A linguistic camp for the next summer
Projects for grants : The goal is to receive financial and material support.
- Robert Schuman Foundation.
- Hachette Foundation
Long-term projects :
- Twinning town. The town is looking for a partner. The mayor is ready to fill all the document.
- To open inside the Language and Cultural Centre a self French space being able to receive a French volunteer who could give French lessons and develop projets for French culture and language in Rezekne.
Yearly project
- a French week in R�zekne with presentation of a French movie in the cinema, listening French music in the local radio and presentation of different French program in the local TV. We would like also to organize an exhibition about French Art inside the Art College and about French composers in the Music college. The students could prepare a concert with French songs.
