MARY EMMA PARTIN
By
SheRita Kae Partin
Mary Emma (Etta?) Partin, listed her father as of John Partin on the Confederate Pension Application she filed in Austin, Texas. She is believed to be the daughter of possibly John William Partin; but there is no positive proof at this time except Mr. Robert Mosley "Bob" Partin remember her as his Aunt.
Mary was born 22 December 1850 in Alabama possibly Marengo County, Alabama. She died 20 February 1928 in Nacogdoches County, Texas and is buried in the Old North Church Cemetery in Nacogdoches County, Texas.
On 4 (5) February 1871 in Nacogdoches County, Texas she was married by D.C. Neal to James Leonard Tindall. The marriage certificate is located in the Nacogdoches County Marriage Records in Vol. C, page 269. This document gives her name as Mary M. Partin and his as just Leonard Tindall.
James Leonard Tindall, was born 6 June 1832 in Giles County, Tennessee, and he died 3 October 1914 in Nacogdoches County, Texas. He was buried in the Old North Church Cemetery in Nacogdoches County, Texas. Leonard was the son of Patience Rainbolt (Reinbolt), who was born ca. 1818 in Kentucky and James Tindall, who was born 1799 in Georgia. Leonard served in the Confederate States Army in Company H., 4th Texas Calvary.
Neither Mary Partin nor Leonard Tindall are located in the 1850 or 1860 Census of Nacogdoches County, Texas. Mary did not come to Texas until 1870 according to her pensions application as spouse of Leonard Tindall. This writer believes she came to Texas in 1870 to be near Leonard Tindall. His family had lived in Coffee, Grundy and Franklin Counties, Tennessee near her own family. It is believed she was already engaged to Leonard when she came to Texas. She lived and worked for her brother George W. Partin who had a General Store and later a hotel.

Mary M. 25 F W Texas

Mary Partin was also listed in the home of Patience Reinbolt and James Tindall in 1870. It is believed she was actually living with her brother but was engaged to Leonard and anticipated as soon to be a member of the family and this is why she is listed twice in the 1870 Census. She did marry Leonard just a few months after this Census was taken.
