After spending the night in jail for fighting, Johnny is released by marshal Craddock.
Meanwhile...Palliser is bringing his herd into town for auction and reports to corporal Bennett
that 6 were stolen along the way. "Probably by Americans!"
(Jack is offended)
"Now hold on a minute there mister, if you ain't no good at raisin' horses, you should try raisin'
somethin' that don't run so fast, like pigs!"
(Meanwhile: an unsuspecting Johnny is hired by the thieves to
deliver the stolen horses to Cooper's Landing, in the U.S.).
( Did I mention that Johnny and Palliser's daughter Anne, are
secretly in love)?
Of course Palliser catches Johnny with his horses - so we're in fer a hangin'.
"Jack, I didn't say Americans stole the horses, now are
you going to help me or not ?!"
(Clive admits that Jack is the best tracker he knows...with a grin Jack agrees to help).

Marshal Craddock shoots the rope
just as Johnny is about to hang (whew).
"You almost hung an innocent boy!"
Later..back in town, Johnny decides not to press attempted murder charges against Mr. Palliser.
...who is shocked to learn about this
'no account' boy and his daughter.
Mighta done the world a favor if we'd 'a kept Palliser in jail Clive."
