As Colleen begs Horace to let the marshal go, Jack is telling Horace to shoot him.
"Shoot me, just shoot me dead!"
"Aw now marshal, dyin' is dyin'."
Suddenly Horace's partner falls to the ground with a knife in his back. The horse gets jumpy,
Jack tries talking to it,"Steady now girl".
McLeod rushes towards them yelling,Colleen shoots at Horace, the horse takes off, Jack is left
swinging from the tree.
"Colleen cut the rope!"
Jack is choking and weazing, trying to catch his breath, as Colleen and Jamie cut him down.
"I'm...obliged."
The trio heads for Bordertown.
Colleen is ragging on Jack,"He saved your life and you're still going to give him to the mountie?"
"It's my job lady."
McLeod tells Colleen to go away, "My Cree wife can bring me my meals in prison, what do I need
you for?"
The marshal comments, "Yer a pretty fair liar McLeod."
"She has no future with me brother."
"Stop callin' me that. I ain't yer brother."
For the next few miles, McLeod gives Craddock the silent treatment. He finally tells Jack he
must perform a ritual to set his spirit free or it will die in prison.
Jack thinks it's a bunch of nonsense, but agrees to let him.
Craddock watches him paint his face and chant by the fire. He's a little suspicious.
"Hold up McLeod! Thunderbolt! You saved my life, I can't take yers. Go on! Marry that girl
that's too good fer ya."
McLeod rides on ahead, Jack yells after him:
"Son of Thunder!" he hugs Jack, who is very embarrassed. Looking around, Jack says to himself
"Gosh, I hope no one seen that."
McLeod rides off, and Jack realizes his gun is missing.
Marshal Craddock rides into town looking mighty rough. Marie runs to him, "Jack, what
happened?Are you all right?"
Clive wants to know where his prisoner is.....
"He jumped me in the woods and run off, 'fore I could get a good shot at 'im..he was clear outta
sight. I'll tell ya the whole miserable tale when I'm cleaned up and rested a bit."
"Good Jack, because I'm curious to know how you got a shot off with no pistol."
Later..at Jack's cabin:
"Craddock! I want to talk to you....
...You deliberately let that
"Watch yer mouth Bennett!"
"Don't let 'em in 'til I'm decent!"
Jamie and Colleen walk in, they don't seem to notice the marshal is in the tub.
Colleen thanks Jack for letting Jamie go. She explains that they told the corporal the whole story.
McLeod passes Jack his gun."Here brother, I owe you a few bullets."
"I ain't yer brother, stop callin' me that!"
Jamie adds, "Colleen and I are getting married brother, we can't do that with a warrent over my
head, so I decided to turn myself in and stand trial."
"We're sorry brother, you probably want to have your bath in peace." They leave and Jack is
about to get out of the tub when the door opens again, this time it's Marie.
"Get out woman!"
"Thunder Cloud mad?"
Jack points his gun,"Yer in fer a rude awakenin' ...you hear me Bennett?! Yer ridin' fer a fall!"
Alone at last, Jack lays back in the tub.
"I used my rifle... ain't you never heard 'a them?..or ain't ya usin' 'em up in the colonies yet?"
Colleen is hurt by his words and rides off.
Clive turns back and winks as he leaves.
Now what did I do with that bar of soap?...hehehe..
