Honour Thy Father
Gabriel Couteau is hired by newcomer Peter Olsen to help build a cabin.
"William Travis," Couteau whispers.
"You know him?" Olsen asks.
"I know his kind...all Metis know him...he works for
MacDonald."
Couteau picks up his rifle.
History lesson: John A. MacDonald was the first Prime Minister of Canada, (and was responsible
for creating the NWMP in 1873). The Canadian government bought a large parcel of land
from the Hudson Bay Company, but the Metis who lived on this land were angry and rebelled
against the government. They followed their new leader, Louis Riel into an uprising. 200 Metis
attacked 46 NWMP and 41 english volunteers. 12 mounties were killed and they were forced to
retreat.Following the battle of Batoche, Louis Riel surrendered and was charged with  treason.
His trial lasted one hour. The all- english jury found him guilty and sentenced him to hang.
Sir John A. MacDonald was flooded with petitions from french Canadians, begging that Riel not
be hung. But MacDonald wanted rid of his rival, and the sentence was carried out.
Louis Riel's death caused an outburst of hatred between french and english Canada, which even
today, has weakened Canadian unity.
Willie and Karl (Peter Olsen's son), are hauling logs for
the cabin. As Karl starts to walk towards the Olsen's cabin
they hear a gunshot. Karl is further up the trail then Willie
and gets to the cabin first.

from were Metis...Couteau's people. I'm

But when the lawmen arrive at Marie's, Couteau is gone.
While Jack is convinced of Couteau's guilt, Clive thinks he'll
take another look around the farm. Jack decides he'll keep
looking for the halfbreed.
Meanwhile, Willie is doing some investigating
himself. He determines that Karl could not

because he had stolen money from him.
Jack is paying a visit to Couteau when he decides to cut some
flowers for Marie...from her own garden!
He makes light of the situation as he tells Couteau
he "looks a might better."
Getting no response from the Metis, Jack finally
apologizes "fer jumpin' the gun on ya."
Gabriel whispers something to the doctor. She tells
the marshal, "He says his temperature is 101, and he
thanks you for the flowers."
"Oh these flowers ain't fer him Marie...
