Demon Rum (continued)
Ardimous is on the saloon steps when he hears Marie tell the teamster's that she thinks their
whiskey was tainted with chemicals. They tell her they have a supply outside of town and ask if
she will come with them to test it. She agrees.
Back at the detachment Bennett is getting an earful from the ladies. "Corporal! Corporal! " He
leaves his desk and goes to the back room to see what they want.
Mrs. Radway tells him that Sally would like to go for a walk.
"It's the call of nature corporal, we all have to go."
"Oh."
In the meantime Jack is heading for the saloon again when Ardimous tells him Marie left town
with the teamsters. He jumps on his horse and rides after her.
The ombres have Marie tied to the still, but she
frees herself and gets away. The teamsters chase after her.
As she runs past Jack he grabs her. "Did anyone ever tell you not to ride off with strangers?"
She tells Jack, "They are mixing alcohol with linoment and making rot gut."
"It's gut rot Marie."
Jack tells Marie the "ombres are movin' in fer
position. We're caught like rats in a rain barrel.
You stay put Marie. She says she's going with him.
"Have you ever won an arguement with me Jack Craddock?"
"No. Well, just don't come cryin' to me when yer
killed!"
Back in Bordertown the Temperance Women are chanting, "We want dinner! We want dinner!"
Clive is talking to himself, "I should
have stayed in Toronto."
"You do what I tell ya to do Marie!"
Ardimous is enjoying himself at the saloon. Zac has him
sampling every bottle of whiskey.
Jack and Marie are on the run. Jack trips and she falls on top of him.
"You alright Marie?"
"Ahuh."
"Guess we better keep movin'."
"Ahuh."
"You gotta move first."
Somehow Jack manages to circle back to the still and blow it up.
Back in town the women are released from
jail to make room for the teamsters.
They tell the corporal and marshal that their jail is
disgusting and their reform committee will be seeking
immediate improvements.
Clive looks at Jack, "If jails weren't disgusting
everyone would want to stay in them."
Jack goes to check on Marie.
"Back there in the woods, it was close."
"Yes, very close."
She invites him in to help her do some tests on the whiskey.
"You don't like to drink do you Jack?"
"I can't Marie - big difference."
"Ya see, there's a whole lotta reasons why cowboys
drink, some 'cause they're happy, some 'cause they're
sad, some just drink, well, 'cause they're cowboys.
And others, well, they're just tryin' ta fill up a
big hole that just stays empty no matter what
they do."
"Is that you Jack?"
"Yah, used to be. I spent some time with the bottle a while back."
'scuse me Marie, but yer left hand is gettin' a
might personal with the marshal's leg.
Yeah!
"Sally is in JAIL, she can't just go for a walk."
Sally replies:
