The Bounty Hunter
Stevens is arrested for trying to smuggle rifles into Canada.
Alberto Gonzales and Manuel Martinez murder an indian at Williams Creek, on the Canadian
side of Bordertown. Dom finds the body.
Meanwhile:
Gonzales rides into town pretending to be a bounty hunter with his prisoner (Martinez), he
tells the Marshal that he is taking Martinez to Mexico where he will hang, and asks to keep him
(They are really bounty hunters who are after Jack).
Jack is suspicious.
"Willie gets my badge, hat and all my Mexican possessions, Jake gets all my clothes and this
here knife that belonged to my Daddy" (Jake was good friends with Jack's Pa).
"Bennett gets all my guns, horses and bridles, and I want Marie to have all my money, land,
and this here cabin". Jack wants her to use any money she gets from selling the property to take
" a trip to San Fran Sisco, or somewheres nice like it".
Corporal Bennett and Dom go to Williams Creek to retrieve the body of the indian.
Gonzales captures Marie and threatens her if Jack does not cooperate. He puts them both in jail.
Jack tells Marie why Don Carlos has a bounty on
him. "Ya see Marie, eight years ago I was married
n' livin' in El Paso with my wife & little daughter,
Don Carlos wanted our land and tried ta run us off.
One day while I was away 2 of Don Carlos' pistoleers
kidnapped my family and murdered 'em.....
( In a later episode Jack shows Marie and Clive a photo of his wife and daughter).
NOTE:
Later that evening the marshal gets Wendell to write his will:
Gonzales and Martinez try to leave Bordertown with Jack and Marie....they plan to kill Clive.
Later, back at the detachment:
Her Majesty ain't never gonna know Stevens had 18 of these here
rifles instead of 16", as he picks up one of the confiscated Winchester's.
"Um, Otto melted it down".
...I went after 'em and in the fight I killed his son.
in jail for the night.
burned down his ranch house.
Jack tries to convince Clive to keep the weapons instead of turning them over to the crown.
At that same moment:
Clive and Marie sense he is uneasy.
Don Carlos swore revenge."
Outside of Bordertown, Clive realizes there is
something wrong with the bounty hunter's story.
He and Dom quickly return to town.
Jake delivers a meal to the prisoners and notices Marie's shawl on Clive's desk. He leaves the
tray with Gonzales but is suspicious of him.
He meets Clive and Dom in the livery on their return and tells them the marshal and the
doctor are in trouble.
Clive has a plan.....he gives Dom and Jake instructions and then he cuts the saddle cinch on
Gonzale's horse....before walking into the detachment, assuming to be unaware there is a
problem.
They are met with gunfire as they open the door.
The townspeople hold their fire as Gonzales steps outside with his gun pointing at Marie.
But when the bounty hunter tries to mount his horse, the saddle gives way and slides to the
ground...giving Clive and Jack the opportunity they needed.
Jack talks about his family. He tells his
friends that he doesn't even have a
picture of his wife and daughter because
he lost everything when the hombre's
Clive walks over to his desk and asks, "Where's my gun Jack?"
With a chuckle Jack replys, "Ya know Clive, it appears ta me that
"Where's my gun Jack?"
As Marie holds up a horse shoe, Jack snorts....
