Blood
Couteau and the lawmen are tracking a man (John MacKay) who robbed the bank in Helena.
MacKay is wounded, Couteau promises he will return soon, and leads the lawmen away from John.
"The livery is like my bank, it's built on trust
"Look McWherter, I don't wanna have ta shoot
"Third horse on the right."
Craddock gets Wendell to make a cut in one of the horses shoes. (Easier fer trackin').
When Couteau goes to the general store to buy supplies, the bounty hunter tries to hire him to
track the half-breed, MacKay. Couteau tells him to keep his money, he won't help.
When Harper leaves, Marie asks why Couteau needs bandages. Gabriel tells her "For my cousin."
later by Jack and Clive.
Marie removes the bullet.
Suddenly the bounty hunter fires on them, MacKay shoots back...killing him.
Couteau hopes to fool the marshal and the mountie into following the wrong trail.
MacKay has killed the bounty hunter.
They leave her there and continue on.
Jack soon figures out which tracks not to follow. 
MacKay wants to ambush Bennett and Craddock.,"No! They are my friends!"
Gabriel decides to lead the lawmen in a different direction so his brother can escape.
"Take my horse and go!"
They spot MacKay at the creek, Clive knocks him off his horse.

Clive tells Gabriel that his brother will get a fair trial.
Later Gabriel visits John in jail.
He finds his brother hanging in the cell.
Before he leaves town, Couteau thanks Marie for helping his brother and apologizes for the way
'Jean' treated her.
"You surprise me Bennett, lettin' Couteau go
"It was his brother, I might have done the same.
"I wager you won't find him, he'll probably dissappear
fer awhile-then one day he'll just walk in ta the saloon
n' order a bowl 'a chili."
"Sounds like you know him Jack."
"No, I just know someone who would 'a handled it the same way."

The marshal warns Harper to stay away from MacKay.
As the man walks away Jack turns to Wendell.
"Which one's his horse MacWherter?"
They soon find Marie who explains that
(the cut MacWherter made in the horse's shoe).
Couteau eventually finds him, but recognizes
the man as his long estranged brother Jean.
They were seperated at a young age when their father (a white
french trapper) died. Gabriel was raised by his mother (a Cree)
Jean was sent  away to an english school, where he was taught
to be ashamed of his indian and french backgrounds...
Back in town, Jack spots a bounty hunter (Harper)
taking down MacKay's wanted poster.
"If yer in need 'a paper there's a general store in
town mister."
Thinking this 'cowboy' plans to collect the bounty himself, Harper tells him to mind his business.
Jack moves his bandana to reveal his tin star, "Never much cared fer a man who killed fer
dollars."
marshal."
ya." Jack glares.
Marie offers to help. They are followed out of town by Harper...who is followed a few minutes
"If you are innocent the law in Bordertown will help you."
John yells back at her, "I am a halfbreed! The law is different for us madame!"
She tries to convince John to turn himself in.
Marie wrestles with MacKay, who hits her on the head knocking her out. Once Gabriel is certain
her injury isn't serious, he puts Harper's body on one of the horses and sets it free along with
Marie's horse.

The lawmen follow the trail that Couteau
deliberately leaves...and soon catch up to him.
"Where is he!?"
"He is my brother...let him go!"
"There's a dead man back in Helena won't
let me do that."
They tie Gabriel to a tree and continue searching.
When they return for Couteau, John accuses his

Later, as Jack is cleaning his rifle and Clive is writing up his report, they discuss the events.

...and where his name is changed from Jean to John.
