I am basically from a place in West Bengal named   Siliguri. I had done my  schooling  from Delhi  Public  School   situated   within   NTPC,    FSTPP Township  at  Farakka.  We  also  have a flat at DumDum in Kolkata. My father is working in  State  Bank  of  India and is posted in a place named Kaliaganj which is about 400 km away from Kolkata. My mother is a housewife.

Siliguri  is  situated  in  the  foothills  of  the  great  Himalayas.  It has invariably cool weather most of the time of the year, with  plenty  of  rainfalls both in the winter and the traditional rainy season. It has  efficient road links with Darjeeling , Mirik, Kalimpong and other famous Hill s tations. Apart from this Siliguri boasts of having a  rail  link to  Darjeeling  &   Curseong from the New  Jalpaiguri  Station. Some of  the finest varieties of tea are available here, with the influx coming mostly  Thurbo Goodrick  tea  plant near  Mirik. It also forms the hub for linking North  East  with the rest of India.

Farakka is famous for the   Farakka  Barrage & NTPC plant along the feeder canal (originating  from the  Ganges  itself). The barrage regulates the supply  of   water to   Bangladesh and is  1.6 km long & has 109 flood gates , which remain wide open during monsoons ( flooding Bangladesh as a result !)

The Farakka Super  Thermal Power  Plant of NTPC was set up  in the year  1975. There  are three   townships  named    Pubarun    (PTS),   Nabarun (TTS/TTB) & Shuvarun  (Field Hostel).  The townships have mainly 4   type of quarters   A,B,C,D along   with  staff quarters,  GM bungalow   ( in PTS)   and Bachelor's  Accommodation.  A large amount of  money is invested  by NTPC annually  for the maintenance of the townships. It   also  has   Netaji stadium , along with  GYM  facilities, swimming pools , squash courts. The life is not a nicely  iced  cake out  here, with  lots of  burden  on students to perform well under pressure and to manage rigorous   tuition   classes (which has become the need of the hour ). Since the three townships are well connected by NTPC buses hence transportation is not a big problem. The people live in harmony out there & participate in cultural exchange during the Durga Puja (the annual festival of Bengal)
