| Transcending Love
We all have read many times the marvelous verse, John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Consider the little word "so". This little word is as near as the English language - or any language - can come to expressing the depth, width and breadth of Gods love. Webster defines the little word "so", thus: "In the way or manner shown, expressed, indicated." The human mind can not comprehend the love of God. It can not be measured. There is nothing in heaven or on earth that can be compared with the love of God. Angels have sung about it; men have marveled of it; and children's lips have dwelt upon its sweetness. But to sound or plumb the depths of that love or to measure its richness is beyond the furtherest stretch of man's imagination. The poet spoke well when he said, "O perfect love, all human love transcending!" This unspeakable love -- which the saints have contemplated but never comprehended -- this matchless mercy -- this immeasurable compassion -- is now and forever the object of our special meditation as we move on into the new year toward the time of Passover, which we call Easter. God finished the old creation in six days. His new creation took him 33 years from the time of Jesus' birth to the Passover 33 years later when He declared, "It is finished!" The world had given God a sordid record of rejection and rebellion. In reply God gave the world His son to be their Savior. The world had given God long centuries of sin. In reply God gave the full measure of His grace. The world has seen no greater love. May our contemplation of this wondrous love fill our hearts with peace as we move into the new year from Christmas toward the Passover. Just a thought from Parson Don across the Garden Gate Donald R. Brown - Caon City, CO - U.S.A. _______________________________________________________________________________ |
