| Some suggest that it was Jewish custom to consider a portion of a day as a whole day, in an effort to fill in the missing time with a Friday crucifixion. Christ circumvented such argument or such custom when He asked, "Are there not twelve hours in the day? . . . . " John 11:9. This logically leaves 12 hours in the night!
Final thoughts: - Jesus was the fulfillment of all the prophets. Luke 24:25-27. - Jesus is the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. John. 1:29. - The prepared lamb was roasted at the 9th hour. - Jesus was on the cross at the 9th hour. - Darkness covered the land for 3 hours. This prevented the offering of the sacrificial lamb, as Christ is now our sacrifice. John. 1:29. - Jesus' body had to be removed and buried before the High Sabbath (Passover) began at 6 P.M.. John 19:31. The events of the Resurrection Day went something like this: There was an earth quake. Two angels appeared and rolled away the stone. One sat on the stone, and the other went inside. The stone did not need to be rolled away by the angels to facilitate Jesus' resurrection. Jesus could pass through the mass of stone. The stone was rolled away so people could see in, not for Jesus to get out. When Peter and John went running to the empty tomb John hesitated, but impetuous Peter rushed right in. Today, we like Peter of old, may come running to Jesus to see what He has in store for us! The message of the Resurrection is one of hope and stability. The prophecies did not fail. We today need not be weak-kneed and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets said. All the scriptures concerning Christ came to pass - none failed. Luke 24:25-27. ______________________________________________________________________________ |
