MISUNDERSTANDINGS

How often have you said something, only to be misunderstood? Have often have you heard something, and because of semantics or perhaps poor enunciation a misunderstanding ensued?

Perhaps you have seen this sign on an office bulletin board: "I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."

Four year-old Billy was asked to say a prayer for his grandmother, whose arthritis seemed to get worse when the weather was cold and damp. When his mother suggested that Billy ask God to send warm, dry weather, he folded his hands, bowed his head and prayed, "Dear God,please make it hot for Granny."

Frequently we misunderstand each other because of faulty communication, but, thankfully, God always understands us. He not only hears our words; He understands our motives; He knows our deepest needs and our innermost longings; He knows our loneliness and most intimate thoughts.

How often we are misunderstood; how often we misunderstand!

Three slightly deaf men were engaged in a conversation during a train ride. As the train slowed down, one of the men asked:

"Oh, I say, is this Wimberley?"

     Another replied:

          "No, I'm sure it's Thursday."

     The third man quickly said,

"I'm thirsty, too. Let's get off and get something to drink!"
