Blessed Is The Nation.. Part 3 of 3

The fledgling nation was besieged by drought. It seemed that all would die if the crops did not survive for harvest. For 9 hours, in a day of prayer, they called upon God. As they prayed rain began to fall. It rained so long that parched crops revived and there was a harvest. At day break a cannon thundered a salute, a solemn procession formed, and the colonists marched three abreast to the church. Elder Brewster walked beside them carrying a huge Bible.  There was an extended service of worship and thanksgiving. Followering was the first feast of Thanksgiving on American soil. The colony prospered from that day.

In 1628 the Puritans signed a compact:   "We covenant with the Lord, and with one another; and to bind    ourselves in the presence of God to walk together in all His ways,    according as He has pleased to reveal Himself unto us in His    Blessed Word of truth."   The Rhode Island settlement, founded by Roger Williams, in 1636, was the first colony to grant full religious liberty. Each of the original colonies had a Biblical foundation. Less than one percent of the total adult population in 1776 were not members of a Protestant church.

The American Revolution was produced by the Bible. In 1382 John Wycliffe wrote in the introduction to his translation of the Scriptures: "The  Bible is for the government of the people by the people for the people." Horace Greeley said, "The principles of the Bible are the ground work of human freedom." It is significant that the Liberty Bell bears the scriptural injunction, ". . . proclaim liberty through all the land, unto all the inhabitants thereof . . . " Lev. 25:10. The familiar picture of Washington kneeling in the sow of Valley Forge during the darkest hour of the Revolution symbolizes the secret of American victory.

Biblical influence is plainly seen in the Constitution. Prevalent is the Christian spirit of justice and fair play. The document recognizes the divine right of the individual, guarantees the government will not interfere in the affairs of the church. Who has not heard or read Benjamin Franklin's immortal words? "I have lived, sir, a long time; and the longer I live, the more convincing   proof I see of the truth, that God governs in the affairs of me. And if a   sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that   an empire can rise without his aid?. . . "   You have heard the rest. We Christians have stood by long enough thinking ourselves to be snug and secure. We must take back our America. We were jarred with 9/11. I believe this was a small "show and tell" from our God. We responded for a while with the waving of the American flag. We need to wave more than a flag. We need to stand to His attention with His Word in our hearts and hand. A Moslum elected to the Senate says he will not swear in to office on the Bible in January, but, rather on the Koran. We all must diligently pray and write both our Congress members and our members in the Senate and make a firm objection. Write to the Supreme Court asking that this not be allowed. The man can be stopped just as surely as the King of England was stopped. Time is of the essence. You can get the names and address of your U.S. Representative from your local paper or radio station. Write them not once, but two or three times. Send them a Christmas card with your objection to the Koran being used to be sworn into either the House of Representative or the Senate.

Now I close with the ending of Benjamin Franklin's historical speech:   ". . . I firmly believe this, and also believe that without His encourag ing aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the   builders of Babel."
George Washington, presiding officer of the Convention, exhorted the delegates, "Let us raise a standard to which the wise and honest can repair. The event is in the hands of God."

Should America fall and become a part of the rubble of nations past, it will be because she has exhausted the interest from the spiritual investments of her forefathers and drained her most valuable resources in forsaking the principles and precepts of God's Word. America's heritage is Biblical. He destiny is Biblical. If America falls the Bible holds the key to her failure:   "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people." Proverbs 14:34.
