| A Faith That Loves It seems to me the Bible has more to say about love than about faith. In the life of the Christian love is indispensable. It is the inevitable manifestation of a heart which has been received into the family of God through faith in the Redeemer. In His farewell address to His disciples that fateful night in the Upper Room, the Savior talked long and tenderly to His intimate friends about the urgency of love. In one of the most touching scenes of His earthly life He singles out this Queen of Virtues as the badge of true discipleship. "By this shall all men know that ye are My disciples, if ye have love one to another." Can love still be called the badge of the Christian? "Behold, how they love one another," the pagans exclaimed when they beheld the early church. "Behold, how they quarrel and argue and strive with one another," the world exclaims today as it observes many a Christian family and many a Christian congregation. The world cannot see our faith, but it could see our love. Love is the public badge which is to give evidence of our calling. How are we wearing that badge? Let us pray God daily that ours might be a "faith which worketh by love," that the light of our love might so shine before men that they may glorify our Father which is in heaven. Let us keep ever burnished and shining the badge of true discipleship. To that end we invoke the presence and the power of God's Holy Spirit as we pray: Spirit of Life, of love, of Peace, Unite our hearts, our love increase, Thy gracious help supply. To each of us the blessing give In loving fellowship to live, In joyful hope to die. In the precious mighty name of Jesus, Amen and Amen! Just a thought from Parson Don across the Garden Gate.
