Silk:
China produces more raw silk than any other country. Japan ranks second. India ranks fourth after Brazil. South Korea, Thailand, and Uzbekistan also rank as silk producing countries. The United States is the world's leading manufacturer of silk products.

Marble:
India has the fourth largest Marble industry in the world after Belgium, France and Greece.

Salt:
India consumes about 12 million tons of salt a year. The surplus is exported to East Africa, South East Asia, Nepal and Bangladesh.

Oriental carpets:
Authentic beautiful handmade Oriental rugs have pile yarns that are hand-knotted onto a woven backing. India is the second biggest maker of such carpets after China. These rugs are also made in Iran, and Turkey.

Other important sectors of manufacturing include processing of agricultural products, including sugar refining, tea, rice, and vegetable oil processing, flour milling, and tobacco production; machinery, including electrical and electronic equipment; transportation equipment, primarily road vehicles and railroad equipment; non-ferrous metals, particularly aluminum and brass; fertilizer; refined petroleum; chemicals; and computer software. Renowned high-quality handmade products include wood carvings, pottery, and brass, copper, and silver objects.

Indian cos stand 6th in the world�s �most-taxed� list

A recent KPMG report comparing corporate tax rates in various countries indicates that Indian companies are the sixth most taxed companies in the world. The global average for corporate taxes is around 35 per cent, but India, with a 38.5 per cent corporate tax rate, comes next only to countries like Germany (51.63%), Pakistan (40%), Japan, Italy, Belgium and the US. These countries have tax rates ranging between 40 per cent and 51.63 per cent.
Significantly, the lowest corporate tax rates are charged by Hong Kong, which has rates as low as 16 per cent, followed closely by Hungary at 18 per cent.
