Shaemus' Story

|
Here is a picture of my Shaemus, and a the sound of him and I saying tickle, tickle, tickle. Shaemus was my third Quaker, he came to me at 10 weeks old. He was splay legged at birth, the friend, a breeder, who gave him to me, chose me, because she knew I would never breed him, and he would have a good life with me. When I first got him, he couldn't perch, so I arranged a cage for him where he could sit on the bottom or on a shelf, as he could climb. And I put all sorts of foot toys everywhere for him, t o encourage him to try to use both feet for him to play. And before I got him, my friend kept him in a little margarine bowl with cotton balls, I believe it was, to strengthen his leg. by the time he was 6 months old, he was using that leg just fine, and if you hadn't known his history, you would never have guessed he ever a problem with his one leg at birth. Except when he was sleepy. Or very tired, he still, then had a habit of supporting his whole little body to the one side, and keeping that leg on the side of the cage. Shaemus, I miss you dearly.
