A Rough (but ready) Gallery:

This is me. The guy on my left is Gnorm.   He squints in the light of day; he also is made of Ponderosa Pine. I carved him several years ago as a wedding gift for two good friends.

You will notice this is a broad collection of work which I intend as a sampler of what I do. It is not organized in a particular manner on the grand arch, but grouped a bit to reduce the chaos.

This was drawn from life sometime in October of 2001, up Oregon Creek, South of Superior, MT. The Roberts -- wonderful folks -- use a drawing of mine each year for their Christmas Cards. I have a number of years' worth of these drawings.

Here is 2003's drawing, in India ink and Prismatic pencil colors.

I just spent 5 years subcontracting to the Clark Fork Chronicle, a highly decorated independent paper (38 awards in 5 years). Lately we felt the crush of the shaky economy and had to go strictly online ... no more folding paper. During my time at the paper I ran a weekly column called the Grapevine. Here you see a typical example of the column. I did all the work on this from design through photos to submission of the final work; 52 times a year for nearly 5 years.

I did my first "Picture US" drawing just before the paper closed, doing all the work from inception through research, gathering materials, writing, art, and submitting the print-ready piece. I had planned on making this a monthly feature (it takes a while to gather materials and do the artwork) but the paper closed too soon (for all of us!). This first one, commemorating a local music hero, met with roaring success ... perhaps more because Tim was a great person than because I was such a hot artist.

Here are a few of what I think are representative drawings: "Art for art's sake."

I did the work above as a study of a crop circle, hoping to find an underlying algorythm or pattern. ...I presently think the message is in 'the language of art' because I certainly can't make English out of it ...

And the drawing below is an invitation from the Heart Cave ... fitting for Valentine's day.

Here are two examples of some photo manipulation (Adobe; photoshop and photoready).

The first is a fern photo -- one of my photos; the one of Mary below is by an unknown photographer. Because Mary is a dear friend, I melded the two photographs in Adobe Photoshop to create a desktop graphic of my own.

The second example of photo manipulation is of a member of the Cottonwood Society and one of my carving mentors, Robbie Anderson. He is also a great friend of mine.

The pic on the left is the original photo. No, we didn't restack the building materials; the clean yard on the right is the result of my manipulations. You can tell from this that I pay due attention to detail ... in fact, I am somewhat fastidious.

Here is a cover I designed and executed for the publisher of Poor Coop's Almanac. He wanted a template with a four-theme.

Here is the same cover as it might be seen during a particular season.

And below is a cover for a chapbook/anthology of local poets from the Alberton area..

And here is one of my favorite creations. I sponsored the competition and produced the posters. This poster looked beautiful printed in full colors ... from the printers the colors are much more intense. The file was large enough that I had to split it in half and carry it to the printers on two floppies (remember the floppy days?). The two files merged perfectly. "A lovely piece of work," I say, self-congratulatorily.

A FEW PERSONAL WORDS:

Over the years I have done a tubfull of drawings for folks. Besides a great (drawn) line, what I have is talent, imagination, and the will to do the work. I have a good handle on Photoshop and ImageReady. I have worked with PageMaker and have Quark. I have done websites for folks using DreamWeaver.
I have an MFA in Creative Writing with a minor in fine arts.

My address is:
