Well, there's a little story to go with this one ^_^ I actually "made" this costume 3 times, once for ACen 2k1, then AnimeIowa 2k1, then Acen 2k2. I've made little timetables below that you can look at, though since this was my first costume, I don't remember exact dates or whatnot ^_^ oh well, you get the idea ne? Have a look thru, enjoy!

Anime Central, 2001

1. Somewhere in 2001...maybe late 2000 Mom says we're going to Acen 2k1! I decide I HAVE to be Deedlit, my fave char!
2. Early 2001 I realize..I've never sewn anything in my life! I start looking for people to make me a Deedlit dress.
3. February 2001 I realize I don't know anyone who could make me the costume...guess I'm on my own!!! =O
4. February/March 2001 Figuring out ways to make the costume...I find a dress at Kohl's thats perfect! Yatta!!
5. Late March 2001 Its getting close to the con...I find a friend who's mom is a great seamstress, she whips me up the blue part of the cape in no time flat! Yay again!!
6. Early April 2001...2 weeks before Acen Puzzling over those shoulder pads...figure out how to make them with cardboard, fabric and padding
7. A week before the con!! Working like mad, making her headpiece, searching all over for elf ears, spending forever on the chest armor, trying to figure out her arm things and how to make my black boots blue...
8. 4 days before the con! Got gold trim! Hot-gluing it to shoulder pads and chest armor
9. 2 days before the con! Yes, still working! A Tornado Warning is in effect, I'm hearing our sirens going off, and I'm in the basement hot-gluing gold trim to the dress and fixing shoulder pads....no WAY is that tornado going to keep me from getting this done!!!
10. The Friday of Acen 2k1 I'm stuck at school, with the con going on. ARGH! So I sneak out of band in the morning, run home, and then sneak back in to sew snaps on my dress, cape, and shoulder pads...finishing touches! I got a lot of weird looks though....^_^
11. Saturday of Acen 2k1! Around noon. Arrive, immediately get starry-eyed from all the costumers!! "Look there!!" "Oooh, its Wolfwood!!" "EEEEEEEE!!!" "And over there!!" well, you know ^_^ Change into costume in a big nice hotel bathroom with like 10 other costumers, freak when the shoulder armor didnt fit right, use safety pins anyway, they work ^_^ and then walk out to the con to be dazzled times 2 million at the people taking pics!!! I'm finally cosplaying!!!! =D =D =D

Here're some pics: (I'm actually kinda embarassed about them, I mean, first costume, I made it in 2 weeks for heaven's sake! *lol* But, you can look thru and laugh, I like the AnimeIowa ones better ^_^)

Now, AnimeIowa 2001! This con rocked, definitely my fave one so far! Why? Well for one, I had a decent costume! Woo! Secondly, I entered the cosplay contest with a group of friends, we did a Lodoss skit, and guess what!! We won Best of Show!!! *dance dance* That was also my first time participating in the masquerade ^_^ So! That was very very cool, and I actually received many comments on how I fit the character of Deedlit perfectly....which is always nice to hear, ne? Anyways! On to the timetable and pics :)

1. Late June, I believe.... Time to work on her bracers and boots! Consulted with my mom, decided felt should work well, cause burlap's too scratchy 0.o
2. Sometime in July... Did you catch what was missing at Acen 2k1? Thats right, Deedlit's cape didn't have its orange lining!! *gasp* but I found some bargain-bin stuff, and made it...that takes a loooot of fabric! and eventually, in July, I got the whole cape sewed together right ^_^
3. July, also Finished bracers and boots, those were cool!! Found a bag of leather scraps at Hobby Lobby, tied some of those together to wrap around parts of the bracers and boots
4. Early August Eek! So, I cheated a bit on the chest armor and didn't make it have a back, but the strings I have tying it broke!! =O So I re-sewed them on during a lunch break from school ^_^
5. A few weeks before the con! Ok! So, no more improvements, Deedlit's all ready to go, I buy some belts for her sword and we're set! Oh, almost forgot, I altered the Kohl's dress a bit, made it shorter and cut the sleeves...unfortunately, I cut it a bit too short..so thank goodness for her cape, ne! heh! heh heh....-_-;;

So! AI finally arrives, Lauren and I (she's the Neptune in the above pics) get there and meet our other friends who are cosplaying Lodoss with us, they made our awesome swords!!!! Check them out, they're definitely very cool ^_^ Lauren and I rode up to Cedar Rapids with our huge "bush" used in our skit in the backseat of the car, that was sure a pain getting in the hotel and up the elevator! Then our group practiced our skit in a hallway by our room, and we gathered a bunch of weird stares from other hotel residents, heh heh....but anyways! Went to the masq and such, this was my and Lauren's first time "masq-ing" if you will, and it was pretty cool! Stagefright can suck though, but not as much as having half your costume fall off! 0.o One of my shoulder armors came undone halfway through the skit...that was scary....but I guess no one seemed to mind, cause we still got Best of Show!!! Sugooooooiiii, ne!!!! I still can't believe it!! That was definitely the best time I've had at a con....but anyways again, enough of my babbling right? Have some pics ^_^

I have a few shots of our skit, care to see?

"You want to help ALL of Lodoss, right Parn?

Go!!!!

Pow-Pow, Parn!!!

Anime Central 2002!!!

Well, I guess I don't have a lot to say about this one, there's not even enough to put a table up really ^_^ I wore Deedlit to Acen 2k2 for a variety of reasons, one because I just LOVE Deedlit, and I love the costume, and two cause I wanted to have a GOOD Deedlit at this Acen, compared to the last....yea ^_^;; So all I really added was real leather strip things, like long cords that I cut and wrapped around my bracers and boots. That definitely worked better than the leather strips before, cause these didn't fall off as much ^_^ I also tried to make the shoulder armor stay on without safety pins, and I thought it was working for a bit, till I actually put the whole thing on, and safety pins were again called to the resuce...but hey, nothing wrong with that, safety pins rock, ne?? I wore this costume pretty much all day Saturday.
