~*~Utena Tenjou~*~

Rose Bride

Guess what? I have another story to go with this one! and I haven't even really started much on it yet! Ever since I've seen the first ep of Utena, I have wanted a Rose Bride dress...I mean, come on, they're gorgeous! Those huge full skirts.....But I never got around to making one, usually because there are sooo many Rose Brides out there, I mean, every con you go to, theres SOMEone cosplaying an Utena char, and a plethora of Rose Brides...but then! Our anime-watchin friend Jacque wanted to be Anthy, cause she's got the right complexion and all, and Lauren wanted to do an "interpretive Chu-Chu," and since Jax might be able to make it to Acen, they wanted to know if I would do Utena....so of course, I jump on the chance! I think the convo went something like this:

Lauren: So would you be Utena?

Erin: WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIII!!!

Erin: I have soooooooooooo wanted to do Utena forever, can I do the Rose Bride!!!!!!!!

Lauren: Ya sure, I guess

Erin: WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIII!!!!!

and yes, the "Wai's" were actually in there ^_^;; I spent a few days lookin up pics (is Utena in this dress any other place than the ending credits??) and drew a reference pic, and then off for supplies!

Target Con: Acen 2003?

1. Oct.18, 2002 So I'm sittin in my dorm room...on a friday night...and I felt like goin out and doin somethin! So I go to Hobby Lobby, at about 7, and spend a whole hour there lookin through Simplicity patterns (on sale for $1!) and find: 1) a dress pattern perfect for a dress I designed/wanna make, 2) a nice full circle skirt pattern thats for 45" fabric and 3) a nice "petticoat" underskirt pattern. So waaaii! I'm all set for the skirt! I almost bought pink satin tonight but no one was at the counter...so I'll probably go back out tomorrow and get some!
2. Oct. 20, 2002 Well, I did go and get fabric on Saturday! Petticoat slip, netting, and the pink satin for the skirt, all in one fell swoop! And, Saturday between 2 and 5, I got the petticoat slip all cut, stitched and prettied! (trimmed) so I was psyched... and then around midnight, I was on a super sugar high, so I stayed up till around 2 cutting out patterns from the netting and such! So today, between noon and 5ish, I sewed that netting together and somehow got it all right and attached to the slip, and finished! You know how hard it is to work with netting?! This was quite the experience! Prolly cause it was my first time, but still! I ended up using my butterfly chair, folded up, as a "dressform." You know, really....I need a dressform. That'd make everything sooooo much easier -_- Oh, and I also cut out the pattern for my skirt today, only it was supposed to be 3 pieces, and I cut out 4...on purpose...to make an even cooler foofy circle skirt...so hopefully that turns out all right!
3. Oct. 28, 2002I couldn't do any more work on the skirt till I got more thread and till I had my Humanities test, cuz all my time before that test had to be devoted to studying!! 0.o So, the weekend came, and tho my test was on Monday, I went out to Hobby Lobby and bought pink thread, but also 2 more yards of pink satin. I want a huge full circle skirt! So, Monday night after that hellish test, I decide to take a breather, and finish! I lay all the pieces (6 of them, were only supposed to be 3!) on top of each other, and cut the bottoms even, cause I hate when you're trying to hem, and the bottom isn't even, so it bunches and turns out crappy >_< And then I sew them all together, fold over the top and install some elastic -- voila! Rose Bride skirt! Only....the bottoms of the sections didn't line up, so after I went thru all that trouble, the bottom is still uneven, making it a major pain to hem. Or, maybe thats just me, but its still a pain >_< So I haven't hemmed it yet, but I tried it on, and its wonderful! absolutely wonderful! Lays nicely over the petticoat, and whats best! I can sit on the floor and spread the fabric out full circle around me...think Anthys skirt when she's starting the duel. Awesome =^_^=
