sEnA RobIn

WiTch HuNter RObiN

I got started on WHR by Rob, the "Kenshin" in previous pics. After I downloaded a few, it started to draw me in. You know how that goes? You watch somethin and then after a bit you just feel yourself drawn to it? Thats how it went. Maybe its because I like anime with a dark feel...something like that ^_^

After I was drawn in, I started thinking, "hmm...I wonder how I could make her costume..." and things went from there!

~*~Costume intended for AnimeCentral, 2003~*~

1. December 7, 2002 While roaming around Hobby Lobby, I peruse the pattern books to find anything similar to Robin's basic dress...and couldn't find anything...until! I look in regular dresses, and find one with a highish collar, long sleeves and a long skirt! So, sweet! I'll need to add in sections in the skirt to make it full, but otherwise, things are lookin good! ^___^
2. December 27, 2002 Time to start crackin! The pattern calls for cotton interlock. Uh...cotton what? I find a nice deep gray interlock at Hancock and buy about 4 yards of that. Then I laid out the pattern and since it was supposed to be a straight line skinny skirt, I picked a spot and angled out from there on the fabric, therefore making a fuller skirt, and also added 7 inches to the end. Her dress bunches up on the floor and I wanted to capture that! So I cut, and sewed, and everything was dandy fine, until the zipper. Man, I hate zippers. -_- Took me 4 tries to get that sucker in! and it still bunches up in annoying huge bumps toward the top...of course...right where theres nothin coverin it so I can't hide it...I'm gonna be a hunchback =(
3. December 28, 2002 So I got the main part of her dress done, now for the details! I bought this perfect white...um...bunchy trim at Hobby Lobby, and handsewed it into the collar and the sleeves. Yes, in the later eps, her sleeves have the white bunchy stuff. My idea with the flared out sleeves didn't work so well. But this is still accurate! We're still good!
4. January 2, 2003 Now, for her black over-dress thing! I went to Hancock again and got 2 or 3 yards of black cotton interlock, and a pattern for a jumper. I cut the pattern out, and stopped it a few inches below the sleeves, cause all I needed was a base pattern for the middle on down. So I cut, and sewed, and put it on the dressform -- it was waaay too big! Even when I cut on the XXS line! Sooo, a little taking in here and there, and re-sewing...and it works!
5. January 3, 2003 So, I have to make straps/sleeves thingys to hold the overdress up. By chance, I just picked up this scrap of fabric and laid it across the form...and it was the perfect shape for what I needed! So I made that into a pattern, cut on the fold and sewed and pressed, and ta-da! Sleeve things! I hand sewed those onto the top part of the overdress and I'm done! Really! Well, besides clippin a few threads, adding a hook-and-eye thing on the collar and (hopefully!) gettin my zipper to lay flat!
6. January 4, 2003 I'm wearing my costume around the house! I really love this one ^___^ and I also kinda figured out how to get my hair like Robin's, too...I think I need to use wire, though...and I gotta get ribbon or fabric cause she wraps them with fabricy stuff...details, details ^_^ *swish* I love this costume ^__^
7. January 9, 2003 Sooo...just kiddin ^_^;; I didn't like the way the rufflies on her sleeves fit...they stuck out like a clown or somethin! So I fixed those. And, I'm still debating whether or not to put the slit in the front of her overdress...I know I really should, but it looks fine now...yar, I think I'll do that over spring break, with an exciting new episode of "Erin tries to make those silly knobs in her hair stand out and not look retarded!" See ya then!
8.January 31, 2003 Aiiyyeee! I looked on Fansview.com and like eeeeeverybody's doin Robin! So much for bein cool and original, ne? ^_^;; But, you know what this means? It means I'm goin allll out, allll the way in making Robin as accurate as possible! So! Slit in the front overdress, try to find some glasses like that, make her pendant and REALLY get those hair knobs accurate! Hooray, here we have a challenge ^_^ Wish me luck!
February 8, 2003 Oof. -_- So I did her slit in the overdress, right? and I'm all done, and so proud that I didn't mess up, and I go to snip off a thread...and I cut a notch into the dress itself >_< So after a few minutes of staring at it in disbelief and berating myself on how much of an idiot I am, I handsew it back together....and I think, unless you look for it, its not too noticible...heh ^_^;;;;

And guess what? My sister has glasses...I didn't know she had glasses...and although they're not perfect Robin glasses, I think they work well! And they're even my prescription!! Isn't that sweet? She said I could borrow them for Acen ^___^ Hooray! ..oh, and I've also been practicing my knob-makin -_-;;
