IBUKI MAYA

Evangelion's so awesome....

Anywho, the cosplay group I'm in, So Desu Ne Cosplay, wanted to do an Eva skit for Acen 2k2, and I volunteered to be Maya...for one, the costume looked cool enough, and two, no one's ever cosplayed her that I've seen, so I decided to go for it! My parents didn't think I could pull it off, but I think I sure showed them! On to the tables!

1. February-ish, 2002 I volunteer as Maya for our group's skit, and look for some pattern I could alter for her uniform...and I find one! I make a practice one out of red broadcloth, intending to alter it later (if it turns out) into Misato's jacket.
2. March...ish ^_^;; Finish the practice jacket (I call it the prototype, mwhaha) and I know what I'm doing now! So I buy some khaki colored cotton, and get to work.
3. April 2002 Fnished the basic khaki part of the uniform! After a few alterations around the waist so it fits right (I pinned that costume to myself SO many times -_-), everything looks good. Now gotta do those orange things on the shoulders. I draw a reference pic and make patterns of them from tissue paper, then using orange fabric from my Kaoru costume leftovers, cut those out, and Wonder-Under each piece to the shoulders. (2 pieces for each shoulder, front and back)
4. Later April 2002 I trace where the black lines are, and borrow my wonderful neighbor's sewing machine to applique-stitch those on....turned out quite wonderfully, actually! I was so proud ^__^
5. Early May 2002 A member in the group sends me NERV patches he bought at a con, and I iron one and sew on the other, and made the costume look even more official and accurate! Then I cut out the yellow triangle also from Kaoru fabric, and puffy-paint the black lines on. Buuuut, when I ironed that on to the sleeve, I melted the puffy paint -_- However! It didn't look bad, just instead of puffy, the paint was kinda flat and had little bubble marks...but it worked!!
6. A few weeks before the con Oh yea, Maya has white leggings....where the heck do I find white leggings?! I searched everywhere in town, dance stores, exercise stores, and I finally found like these ribbed stretch pants at Goodwill...size Large, oof. I put some elastic straps on the bottom to hold them in the boots (which I found AWESOME like exactly-Maya ones for $15) and that was that! They worked! Oh! and I used Crayola Model Magic for her zipper pull thing, painted with Testors model paint...I bought the belt at Wal-Mart, and painted the buckle silver ^_^
7. About a week before Acen 2002 Ah yes, Maya does indeed have short brown hair, quite a difference from my long, blonde hair...so the wig I ordered arrived today! And, I thought it looked like crap. But my mom said I looked cute in short hair. Iono ^_^;; We doctored it up a bit in the club room before the masq, and it looked ok...it definitely was Maya's hair, it just looks a bit different in real life, you know? ^_^;;

So thats it! The costume turned out just fine, and we had a good time at the Masq....I took off that wig as soon as it was over though, I felt so hideous! *LOL* But here, have some pics:

Maya (minus the wig) and Ritsuko
