Martha M. Cameron
LAS VEGAS -- Martha Moseley Cameron, 74, died Sept. 14 at Las Vegas Care Center. She was born in Lenoir County and was reared on Edgewood Farm. She graduated in 1941 from Grainger High School and in 1946 from East Carolina Teachers College. She was a 10-year resident of Las Vegas. From 1970-87 she lived in Ventura and Oxnard, Calif. She was a homemaker and volunteer social worker; received numerous citations and achievement awards from church, Girl Scouts of America, various U.S. Air Force Officers Wives Clubs and local civic women's organizations. Services will be conducted Friday afternoon at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bolder City, Nev. Survivors include her husband, Col. Louis Cameron; sons, Jack Cameron, of Oxnard, Calif., John Cameron of Huntington Beach, Calif, Jim Cameron of Palmdale, Calif.; a daughter, Carol Smith of Clear Lake, Calif.; her sisters, Isabelle Perry of Kinston and Sally Lowe of Raleigh.

Warren Whaley
BEULAVILLE -- Warren Whaley, 69, died Sept. 15 at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Beulaville Presbyterian Church, Beulaville. Interment will follow at East Duplin Memorial Gardens, Beulaville. Survivors include his wife, Minnie R. Whaley of Beulaville; two daughters, Paula W. Dail of Beulaville and Linda W. Weidman of Emerald Isle; son, Michael W. Whaley of Ayden; two sisters, Sue McCormick of Richlands and Grace Cole of Beulaville; two brothers, Fred Whaley of Portland, Ore. and Hobert Whaley of Kinston; and five grandchildren. Mary Elizabeth Bradshaw of 524 Georgetown Road died Sept. 15 at her residence. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Augustus AME Zion Church with the Rev. Ernest Pittman officiating. Interment will follow at Southview Cemetery. Survivors include two sons, Dexter Lamar Bradshaw and Reginald Earl Bradshaw, both of Kinston; two daughters, Tonya Collette Bradshaw and Pearl B. Nan A. Harris
AYDEN -- Nan Allen Harris, 82, died Sept. 17 at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. She was a member of Ayden United Methodist Church and Methodist Women Society; former Miss Greenville in 1934 and volunteer for Pitt County schools. Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Ayden United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Ayden Cemetery. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth A. and Martha Harris of Kinston, Robert G. Jr. and Donna Harris of Farmingdale, Maine; two daughters and son-in-law, Andrea H. and Bill Norris of Ayden and Dottie H. Hill of Ayden; nine grandchildren, R.G. Harris III, Jonathan Robert Harris, Allyson L. Norris, Angela M. Champbell and Wesley Hill, all of Ayden, Timothy E. Harris of Augusta, Maine, Christopher T. Harris of Kinston, Elizabeth R. Cornelius Jackson
NEW BERN -- Cornelius "HappyJack" Jackson, 64, of 2313 Oaks Road died Sept. 17 at his residence. He was a retired mechanic who through his hobbies of hunting, motorcycling and citizens band radios shared many good friendships. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pollock-Wells & Best Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dennis Wiggs officiating. Interment will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Agnes Lamm Jackson; three sons, Andy Jackson and Joey Jackson, both of Vanceboro and Matt Anderson of Ernul; two daughters, Beth Jones of Vanceboro and Sylvia Ward of Kinston; one brother, Charles Richard Jackson of Vanceboro; one sister, Canary J. William H. Jefferson
William Harold Jefferson, 55, of Caswell Center in Kinston died Sept. 16 at Caswell Center. He lived at Caswell Center all of his life. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at the Jefferson family cemetery in Pinetown with the Rev. Ron Cyr and Pastor John Smith officiating. Survivors include one sister, Frances Davidson of Washington; one brother, Henry E. Jefferson of Pinetown; and one aunt, Lucy Woolard of Chocowinity. Emmitt Garland Murphy, 71, of 113 E. First St., Kinston, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998. He was preceded in death by daughter, Joan Worthington. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Kinston with the Rev. T.D. Worthingon officiating. James T. Williams
GREENVILLE -- The Rev. James T. Williams, 85, of 201 Stutz St. died Sept. 15 at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Williams was a native of Pitt County where he attended the county schools. He was an ordained minister of the Northwest "A" Annual Conference of the United American Free Will Baptist Denomination. Services will be conducted at noon Saturday at Arthur's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Bellarthur with Elder James Nobles officiating. Interment will follow at Homestead Memorial Gardens in Greenville. Survivors include his wife, Eldress Millie Johnson Williams of Greenville; one daughter, Linda Williams of Greensboro; one son, Thomas W. Dolphus Hassel Hill Sr., 75, of 9-C Kinston Towers died Sept. 17 at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Emmanuel Christian Church, Kinston with the Rev. O.A. Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at Southview Cemetery in Kinston. Charles A. Nichols Jr.
GREENVILLE -- Charles Allen Nichols Jr., 35, of 405 Bonners Lane died Sept. 10 at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Adelia W. Putnam
Adelia Gwendolyn Wheelus Putnam, 51, of 2111 Lightwood Knot Road, Kinston, died Sept. 17. She was a devoted Christian and active member of Rivermont Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was in the Woman's Missionary Union. She and her husband were owners and operators of Neuse Milling Company and Pack Power Farms. She was very active in her children's lives and was her husband's Best Friend. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, Snow Hill with the Rev. Lacy Oliver officiating. Interment will follow at Snow Hill Cemetery, Snow Hill. Survivors include her husband, Richard J. Putnam; her father, E.L. Michael Scott Goodman, 23, of 1206 Anne Drive, Kinston, died Sept. 20 in Kinston. Goodman was a waiter with Sandpiper Restaurant. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home in Kinston with the Rev. Don Holland, the Rev. Fred Carraway and the Rev. Dan Forbes officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. Beatrice M. Hagberg
YORK, Maine -- Beatrice M. Hagberg, 66, of 33 Candlewood Lane died Sept. 17 at York Hospital after a long illness. Mrs. Hagberg was born on March 31, 1932 in Duplin County, N.C., the daughter of Hillary Thomas Brinson and Ruby (Griffin) Brinson and was a 1949 graduate of Beulaville High School, N.C. She had been a registered nurse at Norfolk County Hospital in Braintree, Mass. for many years. She had operated "The Frat House" in Middleboro, Mass., a home for abused, neglected and runaway children, for many years. Mrs. Hagberg had most recently worked for The Fashion Bug clothing stores in Maryland and Florida as a manager, retiring in March, 1996 after 16 years of service. She had lived in Tarpon Springs, Fla. for several years, moving to York in 1997 to live with her daughter. A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Friday at Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York, Maine. Memorials may be made to York Hospital, 15 Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909. Vernon A. Marshall
Vernon Aubrey Marshall, 85, of 1725 Hill Farm Road, Kinston, died Sept. 20. He was retired from DuPont, Kinston, served in the U.S. Coast Guard in World War II and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kinston Ward. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kinston Ward with Bishop Jeff Howard officiating. Interment will follow at Snow Hill Cemetery, Snow Hill. Lucy B. Case
DUCK, W.Va. -- Lucy Nell Belcher Case, 83, of Duck, W.Va., died Sept. 21, 1998, in the C.A.M.C., Memorial Division Hospital, Charleston, W.Va., after a short illness. She was born on Nov. 10, 1914, in Clay County, W.Va. Mrs. Case was a homemaker and a member of the Villanova Baptist Church, Villanova, W.Va. She was the daughter of the late William Cary and Cornelia Rollyson Belcher. She was also preceded in death by a brother, William Clay Belcher; one infant brother, and one sister, Elizabeth Belcher.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Clyde Case of Duck, W.Va.; one son, David C. Case of Nitro, W.Va.; two daughters, Joan Case Turley of Kinston, N.C. and Mary Ellen Duffield of Gassaway, W.Va.; and one sister, Edna Ruth Wallace of Rocky Mount, N.C. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Thomas Ray Turley of Manaus, Brazil, Daniel Case of Tarpon Springs, Fla., James Duffield of Gassaway, W.Va., Rhonda Turley Grimes of La Grange, N.C., Janice Case of South Charleston, W.Va., Ginger Turley Hedgepeth of La Grange, N.C. and Deana Harper of Charlotte, N.C. WILMINGTON -- Liston Carroll Davenport died Sept. 21, 1998 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Liston was born in Lenoir County, N.C. on Sept. 29, 1922, son of the late Johnnie and Sybil Stroud Davenport. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Allie Pearl Smith Davenport. He was a member of Winter Park Baptist Church. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 at Winter Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael R. Tutterow officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Westview Cemetery in Kinston.
