Making a Web Page![]()
Choose an html editor, such as Netscape Composer, Microsoft Word, Claris Home Page, etc. You may use a template found on a website, such as geocities.
Prepare your page as you would a word document. Save as an html file.
To add graphics, insert files saved as gif or jpeg files.
To find graphics, try one of these sites:
Backgrounds for Educators and Others: a collection of clip art links.
ExpressIt.com: search for clip art. you may need to sign up (it's free) and download a plug-in to be able to save the graphics. just follow the directions on the screen.
Plant Clip Art: several plant clips and lines
About.com guide to clip art: a collection of web sites with clip art. organized into categories. just select the category you wish.
Microsoft ClipArt Gallery: if you use Microsoft Word or Publisher, you can download clips from Microsoft. You will need to agree to their EULA, then search for whatever you want. When you are ready to download, follow the directions on screen (run program from current location) and it will automatically add the clips to your clipart and will categorize it. pretty cool!! you can also access the site when you are online by opening your clip art, then clicking on the little globe icon in the bottom right hand corner.
ClipArt Connection: a huge resource of free clipart. choose one of the categories, then search to your heart's content.
Mediabuilder.com: make 3-D text (scroll to the bottom of the page, then follow directions!!)
You can copy graphics from websites (when it is legal!) by right clicking on the image and saving it. Then insert it into your document. Be sure to give credit for the location of your graphic according to the agreements.
To add backgrounds, follow a similar process as in adding graphics. In programs such as Netscape Composer, check the box that says, "Use as background." In other programs, look under Document Options and select background.
To create links to your pages or other websites, type the name of the page or link, highlight it, and choose the icon or menu item that says "Link to URL". Then paste the address of the site in the appropriate box.
Give credit to each of the members of your group responsible for putting together your website.
Be sure to spell check and proofread your page before posting it!
When you finish your web page,
email me the web address or the documents to be posted no later than Tuesday, December 12.
