Human Impact on the Environment
With your group, research one of the topics from the list below. You will prepare a research paper about your topic and present your information to the class as an educational web page. You will also prepare 10 minute discussion with the class sharing what you have learned.
Assignment: you and your group will explore one of the topics below. Find pertinent information and information to answer the questions below. (Remember that not all websites provide accurate information, so find more than one source for everything you plan to present.) You will prepare a research paper about your topic and present your information to the class as an educational web page. You will also prepare 10 minute discussion with the class sharing what you have learned.

Information
Be sure to answer the following questions about your issue:
What is it? What are the pros? What are the cons? Why has this become an issue? What are some solutions? How practical are the solutions? What impact does it have on daily life? What impact does it have on the ecosystem? What impact does it have on the earth? What impact does it have on the future? What political, social, economical, and personal issues are associated with it?
Research Assignments
Everyone in the group is responsible for researching the topic.
To compile the information and create your website, you will be assigned to one of the following roles:
Content Editor: determines what information should be included, what links will be made to other sites, etc.Layout Editor: decides what information will be put where, what graphics will be used, etc.
Web Master: put all the information into html format, either by writing the code or using web page editor such as Front Page, Netscape Composer, Claris HomePage, etc.
You will have some time in class to collect information together and prepare your presentation. Use your paper as a guide to choosing what information should be included in your web page.
1. Carry out background research. Research may be done at the Parkview High School Media Center, the county library, university libraries in which students are permitted, personal libraries, on-line services, electronic media, and personal interviews of experts in the field.
Research Requirements:
Date each entry.Write the bibliography information for each new source at the top of the page, left-hand margin flush.
Follow the bibliography format provided to you by your instructor.
The following variety of sources MUST be followed:
You may not use more than one (1) general encyclopedia.You must use at least one (1) special encyclopedia.
You must use at least three (3) references from periodicals.
You must use at least two (2) book references.
You must use exactly five (5) internet sources.
From the research done, a rough draft and a formal research paper will be written and turned in.The rough draft will be due November 7, 2005.
The final draft will be due November 15, 2005.
The draft and final copies must be typed, double-spaced, size 12 font, 1in. margins, and the research section must be a minimum of 5 pages.
** Title page: Place the title of the paper in the center of the page; developer's name, grade, school, and teacher's name should be in the lower right-hand corner.
Abstract: Brief, concise summary of the paper that includes the purpose and a brief description of the research and conclusion. The abstract will be a maximum of 250 words.
Purpose: Should be written in 3 or fewer sentences and should introduce the reader to the project and its purpose.
Research: A review of the literature and research of others should be included. This section should be a minimum of 5 complete typed pages. The research section must include internal documentation.
Acknowledgements: In paragraph form, recognize and thank the people who have helped in the research process.
Bibliography: List all your sources used from your research. Listing should be in alphabetical order. The bibliography format should be according to the MLA style provided in class.

On Works Cited page: begin each entry flush with the left margin; indent additional lines five spaces (hanging indent .5"; this does not show up in the examples on the web page due to formating!!); double-space between all lines (for space consideration, all examples herein will be single-spaced;) single-space after each period in each entry.
