Robert W. Coller

Pinckney, Michigan
After graduation from PHS, I went on to JCC for two years, then on to EMU where I met and married my wife of 32 years, Donna. Our first son, Sean, was born in 1970 (our greatest struggle was Sean’s death in 1990, at the age of 20, in a motorcycle accident).

Three credits short of graduation (and having squeezed five years out of a college deferment), I was summoned to participate in the US Army. While in the service my family and I spent a wonderful year in South Korea where our second son, Wes, was born in 1972 (now married and living in Los Angeles, working in the film industry).

After the Army I returned to EMU to finish my degree in Psychology and an MA in Guidance and Counseling. I spent a few years gaining experience in the business world (sales and management) and eventually returned to my interest in working with people in a position as a program manager for the Center for Occupational and Personalized Education, a small non-profit agency in Ann Arbor providing alternative education programs for at-risk youth. I’ve been with COPE now for 18 years, assuming the position of Executive Director two years ago. Donna is a kindergarten teacher in Willow Run (taking a break from ten years of teaching special education).

Donna and I live in Pinckney. Interests include computers (webpage design, graphic art, digital video, and WAY too much time as an information junkie on the Internet), travel, canoeing, fishing, sports cars, and mowing the lawn. No grandchildren yet (the kids are working on their careers first!).
