Fame Cove On World Environment Day

 

Another World Environment Day Gone and magnificent Fame Cove still not protected in a National Park!

Parks and Playgrounds Movement says "STOP the destruction of this uniquely beautiful FAME COVE on Port Stephens. NOW!" Private land essential for conservation must be acquired

A Regional Environment Plan for FAME COVE is proposed by the Hon. Dr. Refshauge MP Deputy Premier & Minister for Urban Affairs and Planning .

A REP will NOT save FAME COVE. It will open it up for debilitation and development! The 400ha Fame Cove and Fame Cove Mountain land has been officially earmarked for conservation for over 20 years. It must be acquired now.

Acquisition for National Park is the ONLY way for Fame Cove to be saved from development
(The adjacent 40ha Fame Point was acquired for NPWS and saved in1992)

Fame Cove High biodiversity and scenic beauty

A pristine environment on the northern shores of Port Stephens threatened by development. Part of original AA Coy Grant 1/11/1824. Deep water protected anchorage backed by Fame Cove Mountain.

High biodiversity habitat including threatened fauna species including Koala, Powerful Owl, Squirrel Glider, Queensland Blossom Bat, Eastern Chesnut Mouse and other species of conservation concern.

Rare and restricted Backhousia myrtifolia dominated rainforest.

Rear flora species Eucalyptus fergusonii ssp fergusonii and Macrozmia flexuosa.

Occurrence of the Common Wombat & rare and unusual Melaleuca nodosa/ Eucalyptus fergusonii ssp fergusonii vegetation type.

Fame Point 40ha of high conservation bushland foreshore National Pk.

Fame Cove and Fame Cove Mountain was identified for conservation a the Regional Environmental Study in 1984 and especially in recent Fauna and flora studies. The new threats make the acquisition urgent.
