Honeysuckle ‘Report Card’

NEWCASTLE 2300

Dear Sir,

Honeysuckle ‘Report Card’ 15000 jobs created NH 8/12/2000 page 16- another view?

The $100 million dollar commonwealth "Building Better Cities" has not built a better city at Honeysuckle.

Creating an attractive public foreshore at central Honeysuckle was always the key issue.

Fig Tree Place, Hamilton, and the restored Wickham School are excellent however other development would probably have happened in the normal course of events.

The public has got a contorted road through the mausoleum like workshop area built to allow for the now abandoned bicentennial gift of Flinders Cove.

Outrageously we also have more open area in the Honeysuckle Drive median strip and the odd roundabout and rectabout than is promised for public openspace at the harbour front where it is really wanted.

The current proposal for a continuous built edge at Merewether Street and Wharf Road closing off the planned links between the city and its foreshore is the ultimate disgrace.

The Parks and Playgrounds Movement wants an inquiry where the facts can placed before independent commissioner.
