Edo Warp Station

Traveling in the Yamasaki's new Mazda Demio Sports car we took a trip back in time.
Edo Warp Station is as if you had walked through a time-warp into the Edo period.
This place is primarily used for the production of TV dramas based around
this time period, but is also open to the public.

Above: The Edo village contains an entire town, compelte with a river, shops and
houses, as well as castle exteriors and Japanese-style gardens (below).

Above: One of several streetscapes with a person dressed as "Mito-Komon," a famous fictional character.

Above: This older style, small town streetscape was of particular
interest to us, as it was used several times in the NHK drama 'Musashi' which
we avidly watched every Sunday night.  In fact, the following night after
walking down this street we saw it again in that very episode!

Above: Edo Warp Station also contains many traditional activities.  Itsuka's father, Kikuo Yamasaki
revealed that he is rather good at walking on stilts (called takeuma in Japanese).

Above: Like a form of ancient badmington, this game was quite difficult as the
shuttle cock was made out of something like a stone!

Above: We tried our hand at archery -but only won a consolation prize!

Above and below: The day ended with a variety show containing
comedy acts, singing and a samurai performance.
