Heart Mime

Heart Mime

Boy enters. Girl #1 enters from opposite side. They look shyly at each other, glancing away when eye contact is made, etc. Eventually Girl #1 sidles up to Boy and taps him on the shoulder. He turns and their eyes meet. They smile shyly. She points to his heart and then points to herself. He looks surprised and happy. He puts both hands to his heart, pretends to "remove" it, cupping it in his hands and hands it to her, smiling. She smiles happily. He gestures for her to be careful with it. She nods reassuringly. He smiles. She cradles his heart like a pet hamster, petting it, etc. This makes him happy, and he starts to relax. She tosses his heart gently in the air. He winces a little, but she smiles at him and he smiles back - a little more nervously. She continues to throw his heart up and catch it, slightly higher each time. He starts to get concerned and she enjoys herself more and more. She throws it up very high and doesn't bother catching it. He winces and looks back and forth between his heart - on the floor - and her. She turns and exits haughtily. He looks after her, picks up his heart and attempts to dust it off.

Girl #2 enters and sees him attending to his heart. She smiles and walks over to him, taps him on the shoulder and points at his heart. His looks apprehensive and shakes his head. She smiles sweetly - and he can't refuse. He nervously hands her his heart, indicating with his actions that it's been hurt before, so be careful. She nods reassuringly. She smiles at his heart, turns and smiles at him. Boy #2 enters. Girl #2 points at the heart in her hand and her and Boy #2 laugh. Boy #1 tries vainly to convince her to stop, and then tries to get his heart back. Boy #2 leaves. Boy #1 is slightly relieved. Girl #2, holding his heart in her hand, begins poking it. He winces with each poke. Then she squeezes his heart 3 or 4 times, harder each time. He staggers in pain. She mockingly drops his heart on the ground. He bends to pick it up, but just before he can she stomps on it, turns and exits. He's crushed. Again, he picks up his heart and tries to repair it.

Girl #3 enters and sees him with his heart. She also taps him on the shoulder and points to his heart. He shakes his head vigerously. She persists, pleading him for his heart. Finally, he softens and relents handing it to her. As she takes it from him, he indicates what the other girls have done - throwing it up and down, stepping on it, poking it, etc - and shakes his head saying he doesn't want her to do this. She nods innocently, treats his heart nicely for a few seconds - once again until he starts to relax - and then starts running around dribbling his heart like a basketball. He chases her, trying to grab it back, but can't. Finally, she throws it up, spikes it in to the ground and grinds it on to the floor with her heel. She turns and walks to the side of the stage, but doesn't exit.

Boy #2 enters and sees Boy #1 kneeling over his heart trying to repair it. He taps him on the shoulder, points to the heart and then points up in the air (to God). Boy #1 waves him away like he's crazy. Boy #2 persists, indicating that he has given his heart to God. Finally, nervously, Boy #1 picks up the tattered remains of his heart, lifts it two handed above his head and releases it upward, lowering his hands. He smiles as peace comes over him. Boy #2 exits. Boy #1 notices Girl #3 still on the stage. He runs over to her and taps her on the shoulder. She looks at him and rolls her eyes. He persists, indicating for her to give her heart to God. He shows her his restored heart, and again indicates for her to give hers. She slowly looks less skeptical and more interested, until finally she also gives her heart to God (very tentatively, glancing occasionally at Boy #1 who reassures her). She also smiles as God's peace comes over her. The two exit together.

Narrator enters and reads and appropriate verse.
