Lessons From James: You Can Overcome Anger

 

1.  Define anger and try to identify what some of the causes of anger (internally and externally) are.

 

 

 

2.  Read James 1:19-20.  What things does James say we should do?   Why? (list the three and give reasons why each would be good)

 

 

 

3.  Read Exodus 34:6-7.  What does this passage say about God’s anger? 

 

 

        -Read Mark 3:5.  Are there times when anger is okay? (hint- see vs 20 in James 1).

 

 

 

4.  What are some of the effects of ungodly anger? (immediate and long term)

 

 

5.  Read James 1:18.  From whom are we born? 

 

 

In light of the commandment to honor one’s parents (Deut. 5:16), what does this mean? 

 

 

6.  Read James 1:21-27.  How do we get control of our anger? 

 

 

        -if we don’t make the decision to do this, what is the evaluation of our “religion”?  (vs.26)

 

 

7.  Read Ephesians 4:26-27. What is the advice here?  Why is this important? 

 

 

        -when rebuking someone for what you believe to be a sin committed on their part, what approach do you think is wise in light of this study?
