Lessons From James:
You Can Master Desire
1. Where do you think that desire comes from? Are there different kinds?
2. Read James 1:14 (again!). Are there some desires that are controllable and some that are not?
-the word “own” in this context is emphatic, meaning “individual”. Why do you think this is particularly important?
3. Why is it important to know what your personal desires and weaknesses are?
4. Read Mathew 5:27. If we are unable to commit a sin but mentally carry it out, what do you think are the consequences?
-How can we thwart this “inner sin”
5. Read James 4:7-10. What is the crucial step needed to be freed from sin.
6. Read Ephesians 4:22-24. What does this passage say about conquering evil desire.
7. Read 1 John 5:18. What excuse for sin (or fear) does this verse rule out.
8. Persistence in resistance is what may be needed to replace a sinful desire or craving. Read James 5:16. Why do you think this is important. What must you do after you confess your sins to someone (or be willing to endure)?
