Lessons From James
You Can Be a Complete Christian
1. What does society today regard as the attributes of a “complete” person?
2. Read James 1:2-5 How does James describe the “mature and complete” person?
What are some of the similarities and differences between these two ideas of whole people?
3. Who was this passage first written to? For what purpose do you think James wrote this portion of scripture? What might have motivated him to write this section?
-What is the difference between “pure joy” and being happy? (See Galations 5:22)
4. Think of the words “consider it.” Why do you think James used these words (instead of “it is”) in addressing the response to suffering?
5. Why do you think so many Christians fall when they face the trials that James is describing?
-How do we develop perseverance (and how is it developed in our lives?)
6. Can you think of a situation that initially seemed unfair and awful but actually ended in a result that was obviously from God?
7. When do you find it easier to pray in your life? When things are going good or when things are going bad? Why?
8. What do you think it means to be “not lacking anything?”
-In your Christian life, are there areas that may be “lacking?” How can these areas be improved?
