The Weight of Your Words

Measuring the impact of what you say.

Joseph M Stowell

12. Review of series

1. Can you remember what Beguilement is? Discuss what you remember about it’s negative effects and what we can do to prevent it in our lives.

2. Can you remember some of the myths that surround gossip and slander? Discuss these myths and why insecure people are often particularly prone to using these verbal sins.

3. We talked about using the Lord’s name in vain. Why does His name have such worth and value and how do we use it in vain?

4. Discuss what you can remember about boasting, flattery and exaggeration. Define them and think about the reasons we use them, their harmful effects and God’s attitude to them.

5. What are the three heart attitudes behind sinful speech that we looked at. Why does dealing with these in our lives improve our speech patterns?

Stowell’s last chapter is called “A commitment to positive speech.” Read Proverbs 25:11 and Proverbs 15:4. They speak of positive speech being like “apples of gold” and “a tree of life.” As we finish this study, think about your own commitment to positive speech and how it can bring life to others
