| What to do/Where to go for lunch |
| Lunch is the meal when you can do the most unusual and memorable things...such
as eating on one of the bridges over the Seine, in a park, or on a street
curb. And I do recommend all of these. Of course eating at a café
is fun too, do not miss the chance to do something else.
The first important thing to do is to go to a street market and buy fresh fruit, bread, and cheese, and some wine. (My favorite market is in the St. Germain area on Rue de Seine and Rue de Buci, which are one block down from the Blvd. St. Germain. Mingling with the French people and getting to try out your communication skills in French is one of the best parts. Don't be shy...just go right up and tell them what you want. Now you have the choice of many things. The best bridge to eat on is the Pont des Arts which crosses the Seine in between the Louvre and Ile de la Cité. The views are incredible. It is a pedestrian only bridge, so just take a seat anywhere and enjoy. (You won't be the only one.) A great park to eat at is the Jardin de Luxembourg, although you can't sit or walk on the grass, there are plenty of benches and it is really pretty. The park is always busy with young children playing and their parents. Or if you are just to anxious to walk somewhere before enjoying your food, just take a seat on any street curb and watch all the people go by. I do recommend not sitting on a major boulevard unless you want to get hit by a car...but all other streets are great. |
