Zoos help conserve biodiversity

Arabian Oryx famous for it's long beautiful horns, once was a familiar site in grasslands & desert forests around Arabian deserts. It has a place in their legends. From the side its two long horns appear as one. Due to the poaching for its beautiful and costly horns, short of foods, loss of habitats etc. by the year 1972, the animal was virtually extinct. With a complex breeding programme in Jordan, collecting number of remaining Oryxes from zoos around the world, the Oryx population has now been increased considerably. With planned vegetation, building up their habitats, imposing restrictions against poaching etc., in last several decades, Oryx is now again appearing in their natural habitats
