P.R.E.A.R. was started in Philadelphia in 1995 by Kris Sullivan who was still a highschool student at the time. Reptile rescue was not a well known of thing in Philadelphia at that time. Having owned and cared for reptiles and other animals since he was 5 years old, he had made friends with many people that worked in pet stores, vet offices and other places. He started noticing how people would bring pets to pet stores stating that they could no longer care for them. Many times pet stores would refuse animals due to their size, age and other reasons.
Kris would read stories in newspapers on how police found a large snake, or an alligator in a park somewhere. He would learn that people would just let the animals loose since they had nothing else to do with them. "Don't people worry about the animal getting hurt, sick, or even killed? Or worse, causing the same to a person?" is what he would say to himself. He wondered if there was some way he could help... |

And so he did. He started calling pet stores, vet offices, SPCA and other animal shelters, leaving fliers and such at locations. It started small. An Iguana here, a snake there. And now...well now is a whole different story. P.R.E.A.R. has helped to date, over 1200 animals find new homes. Everything from Iguanas and snakes to tigers, cats, dogs, horses even wildlife. He helped with the 9-11 Pet Rescue Effort and now works with many other rescues nationwide, 1 in Africa and
