| P. B. Archontides is a Greek-Australian pianist who received his Associate of Music in piano performance from the N. S. W. State Conservatorium of Music with Honors, from the class of Elizabeth Powell (pupil herself of Claudio Arrau). While at the Conservatorium (Sydney University) he also won a scholarship to study with revered pianist and pedagogue Lev Vlassenko. Archontides continued his studies with distinguished soloist D. Toufexis at the Skalkotas Conservatory of Athens, where he was awarded the Soloist Diploma in piano performance with first prize and gold medal. P. B. Archontides also holds degrees in Harmony, Counterpoint and Fugue from the Skalkotas Conservatory, where he benefited from the tutelage of well-known Greek composer M. Travlos. In 1997 the pianist also graduated from the American College of Greece with a B.A. in Music with distinction. P. B. Archontides has given hundreds of performances in Europe and Australia, including such prestigious concert halls as the Steinway Hall, London, the Sydney Opera House, the Sibelius Academy of Music and the International Cultural Center- ATHENAEUM (Athens). He has won first and second prizes in Piano Competitions in Australia and the UK. Archontides has recorded for the National Television and the National Radio Station (ERA 3) in Greece.? In summer 2004, he appeared in concert with the Feminarte Orchestra and famous tenor Jose Cura for the induction of the Olympic Flame (Olympics 2004). He is also the co-founder of a piano duet with pianist Natalie Tsaldarakis, with whom he has recorded works for two pianos by Greek composers. Their debut CD recording includes live highlights from their recital at the Pierce Auditorium of the American College of Greece (Athens, May 14, 2004) While he lived with his family in Greece, P. B. Archontides was a professor of Music at the American College of Greece (Pierce College, 1998-2005), where he also attained the position of Pierce Choir Director, and a piano professor and instructor of higher theoretical studies at the National Conservatory of Music (2003-2005). In fall 2005 the pianist relocated to London to further his career and graduate study at Trinity College of Music (London) as a pupil of pianist Elena Riu. In 2006-2007, Panayotis was Trinity College of Music scholar and recipient of the Mehroo and Byram Jeejeebhoy Piano Prize. In 2007 alone, the pianist appeared as soloist with the TCM Symphony Orchestra under the baton of James Judd (Brighton 22/3 and Blackheath Halls 23/3/07), after winning the concerto auditions, also at the Cheltenham Spring Concert Series, for which a reviewer wrote "Panayotis Astonishes Us", at the Steinway Hall, London, and in historic London churches St Alfege and St Brides with the Ivory Duo. The duet was also selected for the New Masters Series, under the management of Eric Heliczer, which aims at selecting the most promising emerging artists in the UK. Panayotis has been awarded the coveted Worshipful Company of Musicians Silver Medal for excellence (2007). In 2008 Panayotis appeared both solo and with the Ivory Duo in such prestigious venues as St-Martin-in-the-Fields (29/10), St Giles Cripplegate (celebration of Rozsa; 10/11), the Reform Club (22/2/08), and St John's, Smith Square (19/1/08). In 2009 he has been invited to present a lecture-recital at the World Piano Conference at Novi Sad, Serbia (organized by EPTA). |
