THE RIEVER'S GIFT

Dunvegan Head to Raasay
Flodigarry's isle to Oronsay
Lower your nets and haul away!
The setting sun's on Eriskay
As Mannannan reclaims the day.

Reindeer, Storm-Rider,
Golden-Antler, Lochlann's Pride,
Rowing along the heaving tide -
On wings of spray these dragons fly
Through thundering seas
To sleeping Skye.

Whose are the hearts shall be
Broken, whose the line of kings?
Ours the gift the riever brings:
The father's shame, the bitter pangs
Of sorrow and toil,
The end of things

Bright in the moonlight
The rippling silver wavelets glide
Lapping along the waterside,
The silent loch that will abide
When every last MacLeod has died.

Dunvegan Head to Raasay
Flodigarry's isle to Oronsay
Lower your nets and haul away!
The setting sun's on Eriskay
As Mannannan reclaims the day.
