| The Parayantharayil family has been able to trace its roots back to the Mappillasherry family of Champakaulam. 2 brothers from that family came to Malakara, which is about half way between Chengannur and Kozhencherry. The time period of when these 2 brothers settled in Malakara is debatable. Some have suggested that the 2 brothers came some 400 years ago, while others have suggested that they came 8 generations back. Whatever the time period, 2 brothers did in fact build houses on each side of the Chengannur-Kozhencherry road. One on the north side - Vadakkel House, and the other on the south side - Thekkel House. |

From Thekkel, probably during the mid to late 1800's, 5 brothers settled and established their own homes. One brother remained at Thekkel. The other brothers settled in the following places in no particular order - Kezhakedathu(within Malakara), Mulakazha, Kotta(yil), and Parayantharayil (within Malakara and immediately south of Thekkel). |
| Appachen, George Varghese, who settled Parayantharayil, purchased the land from the Parayans, or untouchables, hence the name Parayantharayil - untouchable's land. This Appachen had 3 sons and 2 daughters. Both daughters were married and moved away - one to Anchal and the other to Venmony. The oldest son Varghese George or Malayil Appachen, settled further up in the hilly areas of Edayaranmula. The second son, Varghese Mathew, settled further south of home -this Appachen married into a family that had no sons - dethu kayaruka, and therefore took on his wife's family name, Pangattethu. The third and youngest son, Varghese Thomas or Kudiyil Appachen, remained at home. |
