TOPIC 1: Good Bye To My Second Hometown, Battle Creek
We enjoyed my new apartment for only 6 months!
Oe Family came to Battle Creek in March of 1996. My father was sent from Japanese government to serve as principal of Battle Creek Japanese School. For those of you who still wonder why my family used to live in Battle Creek, that's why. I was a high school junior when I arrived here in 1996. I used to hate to go to Lakeview High School, because someone told me that I spoke dirty English; I used to live in New York City when I was an elementary school student, and that's where I first learned English. For those of you who still wonder why I speak English well (somewhat broken English, though), that's why. I played tennis for Lakeview High School Girl's Varsity Team, and that became my good memory in the American high school. I chose to go to WMU, because it's in Kalamazoo (close to where my family was), and I was interested in their geography program. I majored in geography at first, but I changed my major soon after I entered the program, because I became more interested in teaching. I majored in English/Secondary Education Curriculum, because I wanted to give myself a big challenge. I remember my 5 years of college life was horrible in a way, because I had to read so many books and write so many papers in my second language. Most of all, I had to teach English to American high school students during my internships! I lived in dorms for the whole 5 years with 6 different roommates. All my friends from college are my treasures. They made my college life so meaningful and interesting. Now that I graduated from WMU, I feel it's good time to move on. I know I will live happily ever after in Battle Creek, but I need to grow as a person now. I need to make the best use of my 5 years of college education for my home country. I might return to Battle Creek someday, but I have to succeed in my life first. I love my second hometown, Battle Creek! I would like to thank all people that I met in this beautiful city. I love you, all!
