PROJECT PRODUCTS
Title: Dear Diary�c
Grade Level: 9th – 12th

1) Eight Diary Entries in a Box: Students will be keeping their eight entries of diary in a personal box. They will be burying it outside in their schoolyard as one of their final products.
There will be a total of eight entries with different topics:
1) Myself
2) My School, Friends, and Teachers
3) My Parents/Guardians
4) My Family
5) My Neighborhood and Environment
6) My Love, Boyfriend/Girlfriend
7) My Heritage/Background
8) My Dreams and Future Image
Students will only have fifteen to twenty minutes to write an entry. So an entry will be a page or so in length. The audience for their entries are themselves in the future. At this point, their entries can be written in personal and informal ways. They will also have to be very organized for this first product, for example, by creating covers for each entry, including all activity handouts in their diary, etc.
2) Class Newsletter Article: They will be choosing one entry from their diary after finishing the first product to focus on. Then they will revise and expand it into a newsletter article for their second final product of this unit.
When each student meets the teacher for a short conference, they will discuss what to work on and how to expand the entry. Students may need to adjust the length of the entry into article size. This time, they also need to re-think about their audience, because the article is for a class newsletter. They are encouraged to share their article with the class, but if it was too personal and private, they may need to re-choose the entry that they will work on.
