1. So we can start with a classic question, because this is the first interview, tell us a short history of Try Redemption.
Daigle: We didn't have as much time as we did on the first album so we had to really push to get everything done. John: Also didn't have as much money to use. The engineer also plays in a band and he had his own tours and stuff to deal with. So we could only work on it on weekends and stuff. James: We got to stay at his house though so it turned out being alot of fun Daigle: The hardest part was the mixing and mastering... we wished we had the money to have someone else do it professionally James: We are working with Screaming Ferret Wreckords (Nuclear Assault's label) so I think they are going to remaster the CD which is good
Daigle: Fans like it too. We did more foley and extra sound stuff, intros, etc... This time. I think everyone really enjoyed that
Hammer: My voice has changed since the first CD too... I got deeper growls going on now... nice screams James: I do more blast beats on the 2nd CD too
James: One girl said after seeing us, she felt like she had been raped... John: One kid said he had to go to church after a show John: It's kind of hard to describe the music though... we like to tell people to make their own opinions about the music James: It's heavy music Hammer: Not too fast, not too slow, but melodic... Daigle: We try to do original things, try to make us sound like no one else. A bass player in another band here told me, "When you hear Try Redemption, you know its Try Redemption... it couldn't be anyone else."
John: It's hard to do a full blown tour right now... We all have houses, bills, etc... we just don't have a lot of money to tour with... James: We're hoping that we will be able to get tour support through Screaming Ferret though... Right now I think we'll be going back to Texas in November and hopefully Utah by the end of the year, so we're still doing out of state shows... just not as frequently as we'd like...
Daigle: I think the main difference between Swedish and American metal is the vocals... More American bands are into the clean vocal/screaming thing... there's not as much growling go on with USA bands... James: The other thing with living in Colorado; not many bands come through here anymore so we don't get to see in person a lot of the upcoming USA metal bands... Daigle: Tucker went to the Sounds of the Underground Tour this summer (mostly USA bands - Lamb of God, Unearth, etc...) He said the music appealed to him, but you really couldn't tell alot of the bands apart by the singers... John: Also, if the Swedish/European influence keeps coming to the US, hopefully the scene will grow... the majority of the US population isn't even aware of heavy music... they think Metallica and God Smack is as heavy as it comes...
James: I'm listening to Dimmu Borgir (Puritanical) and Sonata Arctica (Winter Heart's Guild) Hammer: Hypocrisy, Oscilum Obscenum John: Nightwish (Once) Type O Negative (Life is killing me)
Daigle: I think the diversity thing is the biggest selling point for the album Hammer: To hear offtime metal, sort of like everyday metal with an influence of Jazz, Classical... James: Cuz it's different than most heavy metal, there's alot of diversity
Daigle: Yeah, it was a lot of work, but it was fun... we'll do another one soon... we have alot of footage from Pennsylvania and Texas to use... James: The DVDs are available on the website too... they're only $5 US
John: Shirts are also $10
Daigle: We all have some more ideas going too... we just need to make time to write the songs... John: We like to write songs as a band, as opposed to one person writing the song from beginning to end
Daigle: I just want to make a living doing this... I don't make a great deal of money now, and I don't ever expect or want to be a multi-millionaire and be on MTV and stuff... John: Same Hammer: I want to be sponsored by Jager and Shure microphones, and to open for Slayer...
Hammer: Thanks for all your time! Daigle: Yeah I appreciate you staying in touch, I hope someday we can make it over there and meet you in person and you can see us live... Daigle: Also we want people to know we are a live band, so if we're ever in your area, COME SEE US! Even people that aren't into death metal have enjoyed our shows, so don't miss a chance to see us! John: Thanks for your hard work for us... And anyone who reads this should pick us a copy of the album, give us a chance, and check out our website (for videos and audio clips - www.tryredemption.com) and My Space page (www.myspace.com/tryredemption) Antonis Maglaras
