Try Redemption
Coming from the United States Try Redemption has just released their second self financed album, which is more brutal, more aggressive death metal than their debut one. Just read what the whole band told us on various topics.

1. So we can start with a classic question, because this is the first interview, tell us a short history of Try Redemption.
John and James are twin brothers; they had a band in High School called Undecided. Tucker, Daigle, and Hammer wrote songs in high school too but never had a drummer. We all went to High School together and after we graduated, we decided to start jamming together... it really made sense. We all get along good, all enjoy the same kinds of music. Our first band name was Nefarious, then Azimuth (we had to change names due to other bands already having those names) by the time we started playing out a bunch we had decided on the name Try Redemption.
2. Before some weeks you released your second self financed album, can you tell us some details from the recording sessions?
    Hammer: I got drunk!

Daigle: We didn't have as much time as we did on the first album so we had to really push to get everything done.

John: Also didn't have as much money to use. The engineer also plays in a band and he had his own tours and stuff to deal with. So we could only work on it on weekends and stuff.

James: We got to stay at his house though so it turned out being alot of fun

Daigle: The hardest part was the mixing and mastering... we wished we had the money to have someone else do it professionally

James: We are working with Screaming Ferret Wreckords (Nuclear Assault's label) so I think they are going to remaster the CD which is good

3. So we will see this CD again re-mastered in the near future?
    James: Hopefully sooner than later...
4. Do you have an offer from this label to record your next album or just to re-release your second one?
Daigle: For now we're just going to re-release Prey For Us Sinners. They seemed to like us though so I imagine we'll be able to do a new album with them in the future
5. So far how were the reactions of the press and the fans for "Prey for us Sinners"?
John: Most places that have reviewed it have noticed improvement from the last CD.

Daigle: Fans like it too. We did more foley and extra sound stuff, intros, etc... This time. I think everyone really enjoyed that

6. Can you tell me the differences between your debut and the second album?
Daigle: Songwriting has improved alot. John and I do more involved harmonies,

Hammer: My voice has changed since the first CD too... I got deeper growls going on now... nice screams

James: I do more blast beats on the 2nd CD too

7. If someone hasn't heard your album, can you describe your music to him in order to get a picture of your music?
Daigle: A while back someone told us that our music reminded him the Pope was dead... hoping that doesn't offend you...

James: One girl said after seeing us, she felt like she had been raped...

John: One kid said he had to go to church after a show

John: It's kind of hard to describe the music though... we like to tell people to make their own opinions about the music

    James: It's heavy music

Hammer: Not too fast, not too slow, but melodic...

Daigle: We try to do original things, try to make us sound like no one else. A bass player in another band here told me, "When you hear Try Redemption, you know its Try Redemption... it couldn't be anyone else."

8. Interesting opinions, but what are your plans in order to support "Prey for us Sinners"?
Daigle: Well, we just got back from Texas and Pennsylvania... We just need to play outside of Colorado as much as possible

John: It's hard to do a full blown tour right now... We all have houses, bills, etc... we just don't have a lot of money to tour with...

James: We're hoping that we will be able to get tour support through Screaming Ferret though... Right now I think we'll be going back to Texas in November and hopefully Utah by the end of the year, so we're still doing out of state shows... just not as frequently as we'd like...

9. The past years more and more bands from USA find the Swedish Death Metal sound and they put it in their music. How do you see this movement?
Hammer: With technology, recordings have gotten better... people like Peter Tagtgren have influenced a lot of recording quality here.

Daigle: I think the main difference between Swedish and American metal is the vocals... More American bands are into the clean vocal/screaming thing... there's not as much growling go on with USA bands...

James: The other thing with living in Colorado; not many bands come through here anymore so we don't get to see in person a lot of the upcoming USA metal bands...

Daigle: Tucker went to the Sounds of the Underground Tour this summer (mostly USA bands - Lamb of God, Unearth, etc...) He said the music appealed to him, but you really couldn't tell alot of the bands apart by the singers...

John: Also, if the Swedish/European influence keeps coming to the US, hopefully the scene will grow... the majority of the US population isn't even aware of heavy music... they think Metallica and God Smack is as heavy as it comes...

10. Now an easy question… If I push the play button on your CD player what will I hear?
Daigle: Right now I'm listening to ... And Justice for All

James: I'm listening to Dimmu Borgir (Puritanical) and Sonata Arctica (Winter Heart's Guild)

    Hammer: Hypocrisy, Oscilum Obscenum

John: Nightwish (Once) Type O Negative (Life is killing me)

11. I want each of you to say one reason why someone should choose your album in order to buy it…
John: It's not overfilled with blast beats or one note riffs...

Daigle: I think the diversity thing is the biggest selling point for the album

Hammer: To hear offtime metal, sort of like everyday metal with an influence of Jazz, Classical...

James: Cuz it's different than most heavy metal, there's alot of diversity

12. Have you released any DVD?
John: Daigle put together a sick homemade DVD... some show footage, extra jack-assery stuff... it was Kick Ass!

Daigle: Yeah, it was a lot of work, but it was fun... we'll do another one soon... we have alot of footage from Pennsylvania and Texas to use...

James: The DVDs are available on the website too... they're only $5 US

13. How much do you sell your albums?
John: $10 US... they're available on CDBaby.com... there is a link on our website, or you can search for Try Redemption on CDBaby.com

    John: Shirts are also $10

14. Have you already written any new tracks?
Hammer: Fuck yes, again it's different sounding...

Daigle: We all have some more ideas going too... we just need to make time to write the songs...

John: We like to write songs as a band, as opposed to one person writing the song from beginning to end

15.  Tell me your wildest dream about Try Redemption.
James: To take this as far as we can.

Daigle: I just want to make a living doing this... I don't make a great deal of money now, and I don't ever expect or want to be a multi-millionaire and be on MTV and stuff...

    John: Same

Hammer: I want to be sponsored by Jager and Shure microphones, and to open for Slayer...

16. Thank you guys for your time and close the interview as you want.
    James: Thank you!

Hammer: Thanks for all your time!

Daigle: Yeah I appreciate you staying in touch, I hope someday we can make it over there and meet you in person and you can see us live...

Daigle: Also we want people to know we are a live band, so if we're ever in your area, COME SEE US! Even people that aren't into death metal have enjoyed our shows, so don't miss a chance to see us!

John: Thanks for your hard work for us... And anyone who reads this should pick us a copy of the album, give us a chance, and check out our website (for videos and audio clips - www.tryredemption.com) and My Space page (www.myspace.com/tryredemption)
