Tribu is a newcoming act
from Spain that has released an incredible CD, full of passion and aggression.
If the Spanish language is not a problem for you, then this is a band you
should definitely check out and support. So, why don't you start right
away with this interesting interview?
1. HELLO! FIRST OF ALL GIVE US A SHORT BAND
BIO SINCE YOU ARE NOT KNOWN HERE IN GREECE AND IN OTHER COUNTRIES. ALSO
PRESENT THE CURRENT LINE UP…
We are a metal band from Malaga (south of
Spain) which sings in Spanish. We have been playing since 2004 as Tribu.
We had others bands years ago…
The current line up is:
Alvaro: bass and vocals
Diego: drums
Acisclo: guitars and backing vocals
Ivan: sampler (the new member)
2. IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN “ESO ES LO QUE HAY” IS
YOUR SECOND DEMO. I WANT FROM YOU TO COMPARE IT WITH YOUR PREVIOUS RELEASE
AND TO TELL ME WHICH THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THEM ARE. WHICH ARE THE NEW
ELEMENTS YOU HAVE ADDED TO YOUR MUSIC?
Diego: Our first demo was self produced and
was recorded in our garage. “Eso es lo que hay” was recorded in a studio.
Musically we have made our music harder, we took more care of the compositions
and the lyrics are harder, bloodier …
3. SOME TIME HAS PASSED SINCE YOU RELEASED YOUR
NEW DEMO. I WANT YOU TO TELL ME WHICH, DO YOU BELIEVE ARE THE “STRONG”
MOMENTS OF IT AND WHICH ARE THE WEAK AND HOW DO YOU PLAN TO IMPROVE THEM…
Alvaro: The strongest moment of the demo is
the third track “Estás muerto”. It is the song that people prefer.
The weak part is the production and the final mastering. Next time we’re
going to change the studio and the producer.
4. YOUR LYRICS ARE IN SPANISH. WHY MOST OF THE
METAL BANDS THAT COME FROM SPAIN SING IN THEIR MOTHER TONGUE? DO YOU PLAN
TO WRITE SONGS WITH ENGLISH LYRICS?
Acisclo: It’s our mother tongue, it’s easier
for us and the people at the underground clubs to feel more the themes
of the lyrics. Time will tell, maybe for our next release... We don’t know…
5. SINCE WE TALK ABOUT THE LYRICS, PLEASE GIVE
US IN A FEW WORDS THE MEANING OF EACH SONG INCLUDED IN YOUR DEMO…
Ivan: “Ley natural” is about a man whose wife
and daughter are murdered and goes out in his van looking for vendetta.
In “Un ak-47 para…” we make a call to arms for the ill-treated, it’s not
too ethic but… “Estás muerto” is a story about a face to face with
a bastard.
6. NOW I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHICH METHOD YOU USE
IN ORDER TO COMPOSE SONGS. DO YOU USE SOME SPECIFIC FORMS OR IS CREATION
SOMETHING SPONTANEOUS TO YOU?
Acisclo: I compose some riffs, then in the
garage Alvaro and I compose some riffs for the vocals and Diego puts the
drums for the song. Finally Ivan produces the sampler and that’s it! Ready
for the show!!!
7. IN MY REVIEW I WROTE THAT YOUR SOUND IS CLOSE
TO BANDS LIKE SEPULTURA AND BRUJERIA MAINLY. DO YOU AGREE? WHICH OTHER
BANDS HAVE INFLUENCED YOU?
Alvaro: Yes I totally agree! The music of
Sepultura or Brujería is a way of inspiration. There are a lot of
bands that influence us: Soulfly, Hatebreed, System of a down, Black Label
Society, Madball, Narco, Ktulu (Narco and Ktulu from Spain)…
8. CAN YOU NAME 5 OF YOUR ALL TIME FAVORITE ALBUMS
AND EXPLAIN TO US WHY YOU CHOSE THEM?
Diego: “Moment of glory” The Scorpions. It´s
something like Metallica but softer, I like the orchestral elements.
Ivan: “Roots bloody roots” Sepultura: this
album has two of my favourite songs “Ratamahata” and “Roots”.
Alvaro: “Natural mystic” Bob Marley and the
Wailers. I love reggae music!!!
Acisclo: “God hates us all” Slayer. I like
the sound of Slayer. They are strong, fast and they are angry.
9. HAVE YOU SENT YOUR DEMO TO LABELS? DID YOU
HAVE ANY POSITIVE RESPONSES?
Diego: Not yet, but we are going to send it
to labels soon.
10. HOW ARE THINGS IN SPAIN FOR THE NEW METAL
BANDS? DO YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITIES TO PROMOTE YOUR WORK? DO THE METALLERS
IN SPAIN SUPPORT THE BANDS FROM THEIR COUNTRY?
Ivan: It’s a fucking shit!!! It’s too difficult
to promote our work. Metal is not so popular in Spain, but there are a
lot of bands, people support more bands from U.S.A. or the north of Europe.
11. WHICH IS THE BEST COMMENT YOU HAVE RECEIVED
SO FAR ABOUT YOUR DEMO AND WHICH ONE WAS THE WORST AND WHY?
Alvaro: The best is the people doing some
pogo in the shows, people who toast with beers in the metal shows or people
like you who support metal and write good reviews for the bands that start
now. The worst was a guy (that plays in a famous band in Spain) that visited
us at the garage and said “No guys!! You should change your style, metal
and thrash is a shit…”. Such people “should” die tomorrow…
