Thunderbrew
If you like the hard and
heavy sound, the doomy atmosphere, the harmonic guitars and you adore Zakk
Wylde's false harmonics, then Thunderbrew is a band you definitely need
to check out! So, grab a beer and read this interesting interview. Then,
there is one thing left for you to do... visit their website and order
their CD!
1. HELLO, FIRST OF ALL THE OBVIOUS QUESTION:
SINCE WE DON’T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THUNDERBREW, GIVE US A FEW INFO ABOUT YOU:
WHERE ARE YOU FROM, WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU PLAY AND PRESENT THE CURRENT
LINE-UP…
Thunderbrew is from Wilmington, DE. We are
a heavy rock/ metal band with harmony guitars and melodic vocals. Our line
up is:
Daran Amos: Vocals/ lead guitar
Bob Beird: Bass
Rick Land: Lead Guitar
Dan Kwasizur: Drums
2. BEFORE YOU FORMED THUNDERBREW, DID YOU PLAY
IN OTHER BANDS? HAVE YOU RELEASED ANYTHING WITH THEM?
Before The Brew I played with several bands
and did a few demo releases but nothing ever came out of it. I spent a
long time finding people like Rick, Bob & Dan who kick ass and want
to do this as badly as I do.
3. I LIKE YOUR BAND NAME A LOT! IT IS SO DIRECT
AND GIVES A CLEAR IMAGE OF HOW THE BAND SOUNDS. CAN YOU TELL ME HOW YOU
DECIDED TO NAME THE BAND THIS WAY? DOES THUNDER STAND FOR THE SOUND AND
BREW FOR THE LYRICS?
Thank you, Thunderbrerw came up as a name
idea at rehearsal one day. Bob brews homemade beer for the band so we felt
the name was appropriate.
4. YOU HAVE ALREADY RELEASED 2 ALBUMS. WHICH ARE
THE DIFFERENCES AND THE SIMILARITIES BETWEEN “RED DEATH” AND “RED, WHITE
AND BREW”?
What is similar is the song writing style.
We don't try to sound like anyone. Just ourselves. When Dan joined the
band in late 2004 the music got a more defined style. Music is a lot more
complex, the songs are written better and we've been woopin ass ever since!
5. FROM BOTH TITLES OF THE ALBUMS, I UNDERSTAND
THAT RED IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR. WHY IS THAT? DO YOU PLAN TO USE THE WORD
RED IN THE TITLES OF YOUR FUTURE RELEASES? IS IT A KIND OF A TRADEMARK
FOR THE BAND?
That's funny! Actually it happens to be 2
of the best homebrews that Bob ever cooked up. First batch was Red Death,
the second was Red, White & Brew. That shit was so good, we decided
to name our albums after it. uummm!
6. ARE BOTH ALBUMS SELF-FINANCED OR DID YOU RELEASE
THEM UNDER A LABEL? WHERE SHOULD SOMEBODY THAT LIKES YOUR MUSIC LOOK IN
ORDER TO BUY THE ALBUMS? HAVE YOU TRIED TO FIND ANY SOLUTION TO SOLVE THE
DISTRIBUTION PROBLEM?
Both CDs are self-released. We distribute
through a company called CD Baby in Portland, OR but do most of our sales
through our website www.Thunderbrew.com
. Our fans, street team and friends have been spreading the word for us
and doing a great job. We are currently looking for the right label to
sign with. Touring is what we have been doing. Shoving our live show down
people's throats is how we like to get it done.
7. WHEN I‘VE LISTENED TO SOME SAMPLES OF YOUR
MUSIC, I THOUGHT THAT BANDS LIKE BLACK LABEL SOCIETY AND BRAND NEW SIN
MUST BE AMONGST YOUR INFLUENCES. AM I RIGHT? WHICH OTHER BANDS BELONG TO
YOUR INFLUENCES?
Influences are BLS, Black Sabbath, Pantera,
Godsmack etc.....oh and beer!
8. LET’S SUPPOSE THAT YOU LISTEN TO SOMEONE TELLING
THAT YOU ARE NOTHING MORE THAN CLONES OF BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. WHAT WOULD
YOU TELL HIM TO CONVINCE HIM THAT YOU HAVE A PERSONAL SOUND? IN A FEW WORDS
WHICH ELEMENTS IN YOUR MUSIC MAKE YOU DIFFER FROM THE ABOVE MENTIONED BAND?
If someone said we were clones of BLS, I would
say "That's nice bro, put us on tour with those MF's". I think we resemble
their style but have our own sound. We do a lot of harmony guitar solos,
people comment on that a lot. I sing a lot different than him. BLS kicks
ass and we share the same genre of music. I'm glad there is not a ton of
bands that resemble them, that sets us apart.
9. ANOTHER HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION: IMAGINE THAT
THERE ARE NO WORDS AS HARD ROCK AND HEAVY METAL TO CHARACTERIZE YOUR MUSIC,
WHICH WORDS WOULD YOU USE IN ORDER TO DESCRIBE IT?
10. HAVE YOU PLAYED ANY LIVE SHOWS? WHAT DO YOU
REMEMBER FROM THE FIRST TIME YOU PLAYED LIVE ON STAGE? DO YOU REMEMBER
ANY FUNNY SITUATION THAT OCCURRED TO YOU, WHILE YOU WERE PLAYING LIVE?
We have been touring since January of 2005
playing the east coast of the USA. Yes I remember my first gig. It was
in some dude's kitchen. That shit was loud! Ahhh, the good old days. The
funniest thing I can remember was on time in NJ when we all decided to
get drunk before playing. We all fell down on stage, AT THE SAME TIME!
More fun than a barrel of fuckin monkeys!
11. YOUR SOUND HAS DEEP ROOTS INTO THE U.S. HARD
ROCK/METAL SCENE. DO YOU THINK THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE IN EUROPE THAT WILL
LIKE YOUR MUSIC?
I actually think we would go over well in
Europe. We would love to tour there. We just need financial support. The
Hard rock/ Metal scene is so much stronger in Europe. It's just a matter
of time.
12. TELL ME A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE TRAGEDY IN
NEW ORLEANS WITH THE KATRINA HURRICANE. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT IT? DO YOU
THINK THAT THE U.S. GOVERNMENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS TRAGEDY? MAYBE THEY
DIDN’T ACT AS FAST AS THEY COULD?
That was tragedy indeed. We lost a lot of
people and we will never forget it. I don't think anyone was responsible,
Mother Nature kicked our ass and you can never prepare enough for that.
13. LET’S SAY THAT YOU HAVE A LOT OF MONEY TO
DO A BIG BUDGET VIDEO – CLIP, WHICH SONG WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO VISUALIZE
AND HOW DO YOU IMAGINE IT TO BE?
Not sure what tune we would pick. Probably
Boneyard, Freezerburn or Black Sheep. If we shot a video it would feature
us playing live, having fun and woopin butt.
14. LET’S TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE LYRICS.
WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEM AND WHAT GIVES YOU INSPIRATION TO WRITE?
I write all the lyrics, but get inspiration
from everywhere including music, stuff on the news, history and stupid
crap that makes no sense. (smile)
15. DO YOU HAVE ANY NEW SONGS READY FOR AN UPCOMING
ALBUM? CAN YOU TELL US WHEN WE SHOULD WAIT FOR YOUR NEXT STRIKE?
We have a few new tunes we are working on
and they sound great. We're really excited about finally writing again.Very
heavy, very doom. They have a lot of balls.
16. THANK YOU FOR THIS INTERVIEW! YOUR MUSIC IS
VERY GOOD AND I WISH YOU GOOD LUCK! THE LAST LINES BELONG TO YOU, LEAVE
A MESSAGE TO THE READERS OF BEHIND THE VEIL WEBZINE…
Thank to all for taking time to read this
interview. We would love to hear from all of you. CDs can be purchased
at www.Thunderbrew.com
along with news, tour dates and message boards. Drink up!
